2012 Division 2 Heat Wave Summit Pro-Am Schedule

Norwalk, OH – The 2012 IHRA Division 2 Heat Wave Summit Pro-Am tour will include four stops and eight races for all seven traveling Pro-Am classes plus Junior Dragsters including opening the season February 3-5 at Ralph Hester’s famed Immokalee Regional Raceway with a double Pro-Am and Summit Tournament of Champions qualifier. The tour will then head to newly acquired Bradenton Motorsports Park, followed by stops at Carolina Dragway and Darlington Dragway.  

IHRA’s Heat Wave division will open the 2012 Summit Pro-Am season once again with a double wild card event and Summit Tournament of Champions qualifier at Ralph Hester’s Immokalee Regional Raceway February 3-5. Racers attending this event regardless of their home division will be able to use these two events as an in-division claim.  

Ralph continues to open up the Summit Pro-Am season with his event and always does so in fine fashion. This race will feature a test and tune on Friday hosted by the track. Saturday’s race is a Summit Pro-Am event with two time trials followed immediately by Pro-Am eliminations. Sunday’s event will feature one time trial before going into eliminations. Sunday’s event will also act as the Division 2 Summit Tournament of Champions qualifier with winners automatically advancing to the year-end championship tournament at Memphis International Raceway in October.

NMRA Announces New Strange Engineering Coyote Stock Class Presented by 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine

SANTA ANA, CA – ProMedia, parent company of the NMRA Ford Nationals all-Ford series, has announced a new heads-up drag racing class for the 2012 NMRA Keystone Automotive Ford Nationals season. Strange Engineering Coyote Stock Presented by 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine will be a spec-engine class, utilizing a sealed version of Ford’s newest powerplant, the 5.0-liter DOHC “Coyote” motor (carrying the unique part number M-6007-M50S) and utilize a spec, sealed processor (CM-12A650-A5LA).

The class will be open to all Ford vehicles, 1954 model-year and newer, and each competitor will be required to weigh-in at the same 3200 pounds. Competitors will compete on a true 10.5-inch tire and have a choice of a wide variety of Ford OE and TREMEC manual transmissions utilizing a single-disc diaphragm clutch, or can use the venerable C4 automatic transmission.

IHRA welcomes popular Bradenton Motorsports Park as newest member track

NORWALK, OH – The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is proud to announce the return of popular Florida facility Bradenton Motorsports Park to the IHRA family of member tracks.

Bradenton, a former IHRA national event facility in the late 90s, is an extremely popular racetrack in the southeast that draws thousands of spectators and racers with special events and big races held throughout the year. The facility managers are very much looking forward to taking advantage of the numerous sportsman racing programs offered by the IHRA and anticipate hosting major IHRA sportsman racing events for years to come thanks to a three-year deal.

LSX Challenge Series Heats the Tires for 2012

ORLANDO, FL – The Chevrolet Performance LSX Challenge Series is back for 2012 – and more competitive than ever. It is the premier racing series for street-based vehicles powered by Chevrolet’s LS and LSX engines. 

Along with supporting the LSX Shootout series, Chevrolet Performance enables racers to compete and win with a growing range of LSX maximum-performance crate engines and engine parts, including the LSX454R racing engine (part number 19257880). Chevrolet Performance also offers LSX Bowtie blocks – with the tall-deck version for building large-displacement engines of up to 500 cubic inches – as well new drag-race six-bolt cylinder heads, intake manifolds and forged rotating components.

Chevrolet Performance personnel will be on hand at all events to answer tech questions and explain the key attributes of the latest parts.

ADRL To Become First In Drag Racing To Allow EFI In Pro Stock

O’FALLON, MO – In a landmark move for the highly-competitive Extreme Pro Stock (XPS) class, the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) announced on Saturday that it will allow electronic fuel injection (EFI) on all XPS cars starting in the 2012 season.

The 2012 ADRL Tour starts on March 30-31 with Dragpalooza VIII at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, the first of 10 events on the 2012 ADRL schedule.

With the ruling, the ADRL becomes the first major drag racing sanctioning body to allow EFI to be used in any Pro Stock car. The milestone announcement will add further excitement to the Extreme Pro Stock class, which had record-breaking fields and performances during the 2011 ADRL season. With tremendous side-by-side racing in the innovative class, XPS was also arguably the most competitive class in the ADRL in 2011.

IHRA announces 2012 Summit Team Finals schedule

NORWALK, OH – Following another record season for the popular Summit SuperSeries grassroots program, the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is pleased to announce its Summit Team Finals schedule for the 2012 racing season.

Designed to give local racers an opportunity to compete on a national stage, the Summit SuperSeries and the Summit Team Finals events have grown each year since its inception in 2002. Today, thousands of racers from all across North America compete at their local track for an opportunity to advance to the Summit Team Finals for a fun weekend of racing with dozens of awards on the line including a chance to advance to the Summit SuperSeries World Championships at the end of the year.

“Over the past decade the Summit SuperSeries and the Summit Team Finals has grown into the preeminent grassroots racing program,” said IHRA President Aaron Polburn. “It has been very exciting watching this series grow like it has to include tracks and racers from all corners of North America. Overall the Summit Team Finals is a fun event for the racers and a great way to give them the spotlight that they deserve.

VP RACING FUELS TO HOST TECH SEMINAR AT IMIS

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Officials at VP Racing Fuels announced it will host a technical seminar on racing fuels at the International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS) in Indianapolis next week.  Scheduled at 10 a.m., Friday, December 9, the seminar will feature VP’s entire technical staff discussing technological developments in race fuel, fuel system technology, tuning recommendations and more.

“We’ll have experts on hand to discuss and address questions on circle track fuels, drag racing fuels, open wheel, rally, powersport and fuels for any other application of interest,” said Jim Kelly, Corporate Director-Sales.  “It will include separate breakout groups for discussion specific to each area of interest, so everyone will have an opportunity to obtain information specifically relevant to them.”

PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and PBSS announce 2012 race dates

CAYUGA, ON – Three of the top drag racing series in North America have announced their 2012 schedules.

The Pro Modified Racing Association, The Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series will take to the strips next season starting with the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge May 18-20.

This traditional opener is held on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park. The race will mark the start of the eighth season for the PMRA, the fourth season for the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the second year for the PBSS.

A new event will take place in 2012, as all three series head to Martin, Michigan June 8-9 to compete at US131 Motorsports Park for an inaugural race at the IHRA facility.

IHRA to add more benefits for sportsman racers at Nitro Jam events in 2012

NORWALK, OH – In an effort to add to the benefits of IHRA sportsman racing on the national level the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is pleased to announce a new sportsman structure at most IHRA Nitro Jam national events in 2012.

Beginning next season select IHRA Nitro Jam events, which for now includes San Antonio Raceway, State Capitol Raceway, Pittsburgh Raceway Park, Rocky Mountain Raceways, Castrol Raceway and U.S. 131 Motorsports Park, will feature a double Summit Pro-Am held in conjunction with the Nitro Jam professional show with a chance to qualify for the Summit Tournament of Champions and national event contingency still a major part of the racing weekend. The move will allow the IHRA to further feature its sportsman classes on the national level and give racers more racing opportunity for their travel budget.
