KOPP RACING TO SUPPORT BEADONOR.CA CAMPAIGN AT FINAL EVENT OF 2012

Courtesy of Kopp Racing

Burlington, ON – Coming off of a promising second-round showing at the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals earlier this month, Rick Kopp and his We Install It Top Dragster team are poised to finish the 2012 season on a high note during this coming weekends Thunder by the Beach event. Not only will Kopp head to Grand Bend this weekend hoping to see the same consistency from his race car that he had three weeks prior, but he will bring with him the added encouragement of racing for a cause, the BeADonor.ca campaign.

Moved by a story he read in early 2012, of a 20 year old girl from Ottawa who faced down her double lung transplant procedure by chronicling it through her alungstory.ca blog, Kopp decided that he wanted to do his part to help raise awareness for the cause. Hélène Campbell, who is now on the long road to recovery after a successful surgery, is the reason behind the support Kopp has shown to the BeADonor.ca campaign.

“Well I think it’s a gift of life right. If something happens to you and you can’t use it, to save someone else’s life is pretty important,” said a compassionate Kopp.  “Tragedy strikes everyone at some point, so if you can help someone out along the way I think it’s a pretty cool thing.”

Evans nearly unbeatable in second Pro Fuel title run

Courtesy of IHRA

NORWALK, OH – At the beginning of the season Bill Evans had one simple yet still very complex goal for his team – win every race they enter.

Evans had plans to run five of the six races scheduled to host Pro Fuel on the year and he parlayed that schedule into one simple equation for the team – 20-0. As in 20 scheduled rounds of competition with zero losses.

Unfortunately Evans’ plans didn’t exactly pan out like he had hoped, but it was still far short of a disappointment as Evans visited seven of a potential eight finals with four wins as he wrapped up the championship by midseason to collect his second career Pro Fuel title in three years behind the wheel of the famous “Black Pearl” nitro-powered dragster.

Evans didn’t exactly reach his preseason goal, but he still managed his second title in three years

Danny Rowe Looking to Regain Pro Mod Points Lead at 58th annual U.S. Nationals

Courtesy of Danny Rowe Racing

LAGUNA HILLS, CA – Danny Rowe has enjoyed the view from the top of the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series points standings for the better part of 2012, but an early exit from the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, cost him the prized position. A mere three-points out of the No. 1 spot, Rowe looks to regain the lead and march towards his first NHRA Pro Mod Series world championship this weekend at the 58th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

“If there’s a better place for us to make a stand than Indy, I don’t know where it would be,” says Rowe, who has finished 2nd in the championship points the last two seasons in a row. “This is the big one, the race you’d want to win if you could only win one, and everyone – from the drivers to the crew chiefs to the fans – treat it as such. It’s a special race and I think it’s going to bring the best out in this team.

“We’ve had a great year and we know that we’ve got to get after it here in Indy and try to get the points lead back,” Rowe continues. “The competition in Pro Mod right now is incredible; there’s a dozen cars capable of winning.

TNT Super Series points battle extremely close heading into Cayuga double this weekend

Courtesy of TNT

CAYUGA, ON – In the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series, Labour Day weekend has always brought intense competition as drivers vie for top spots in the popular sportsman series’ points chase.  This weekend will be no different when the TNTSS rolls into Cayuga Dragway on September 1-2 for a drag racing double-header powered by Bieda’s Powersports.

The final Canadian stop on the TNTSS 2012 schedule, this weekend should see a strong turnout of both racers and fans.  Joe Boniferro, series title sponsor, is very much looking forward to it.  “The series drew a record car count the last time we were here back in June.  With two complete points races plus the ROC, I expect we’ll break that record this weekend.”

The ROC that Joe refers to is the Performance Improvements TNTSS Race of Champions.  It’s a free race for TNTSS event winners only that will be held on Saturday night with a purse valued at $1800.00.

Alexander Confident in Gates Auto Car at Indy

Courtesy of NVW Motorsports Promotion

CLERMONT, IN – Funny Car rookie Blake Alexander is one of 25 cars entered for this weekend’s prestigious Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Following promising results at his last race in Norwalk, Blake is confident that his Gates Auto Funny Car will be one of the 16 cars racing on Labor Day Monday. The atmosphere surrounding the legendary event doesn’t affect his game plan for the weekend.

“Indy is obviously a big deal, but I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing all year, doing my best for my sponsors. The things I’ve learned all year will be applied, but the way I’ve tried to do things won’t change,” said the college student/300 mph Funny Car pilot.

Conditions at the Labor Day tradition have been known to go from hot and slick to cool air capable of record performances. This will give tuner Paul Smith the chance to work on his tune-ups for an array of conditions.

FIRST NDRA CHAMPION TO BE DECIDED AT CANADIAN FUNNY CAR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Courtesy of NDRA

Kitchener, ON – It’s not often that someone gets the chance to say they were the first to accomplish something, but this weekend at the Canadian Funny Car Championships at Toronto Motorsports Park, four drivers will have a shot at doing just that when they vie for the inaugural NDRA Alcohol Funny Car Series presented by Ohsweken Speedway championship.

Heading into the final event of 2012, Welland, Ontario native Larry Dobbs leads the points chase with 433 markers, behind the wheel of his Sportz by Napier Firebird. “I’m really looking forward to Cayuga and running the car some more,” said Dobbs. “I was very disappointed at Grand Bend when a minor wiring issue put us out in the first round. That was heartbreaking.” Dobbs has been on the receiving end of lady lucks bad side at the last two events and feels that that will work in his favour this coming weekend. “That would be kinda neat [to be the first NDRA champion],” said Dobbs. “We’re due for some good luck after, you know, two races in a row.”

Turner quiets critics, captures Nitro Harley title

Courtesy of IHRA

NORWALK, OH – They said it was too big. They said it was too heavy and too ugly. But mostly, they said it would never go fast.

As it turns out, they were all wrong.

Despite its harsh critics Turner debuted the sleek, jet-black nitromethane powered motorcycle he dubbed the “big pig” at the beginning of 2012 during two test sessions in Valdosta, Ga. and immediately sent shockwaves throughout the two-wheel racing community. Within just a few laps Turner showed everyone that the bike that “never would” could actually do all of the above and then some.

Sitting a bit wider than usual with 10 extra inches of wheelbase and a motor positioned slighter farther forward, the “big pig” was considered by Turner the “bike of the future” when he rolled it off the trailer in February. Perhaps Turner was on to something.
