No big changes for Jeff Moser and his Top Dragster team in 2013

BAMBERG, ON – Jeff Moser and the MoBoyz Racing Team are not planning any major changes for the upcoming Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

We’re taking the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ attitude, said team driver Moser. We’re pretty happy with the tune-up on the car as it is.

The Top Dragster team was successful in 2012, finishing third in series points, along with a pair of wins, at the Cayuga Dragway and at Martin, Michigan. The team also qualified for all Quick 32 Sportsman Series events last year, and has already been racing in 2013. Moser added they have been to Florida to compete in IHRA racing, and placed third during a divisional event at Immokalee Regional Raceway. The team also plans to race in North Carolina and South Georgia before the start of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series in 2013.

Early Regional Exit Will Not Detour Ahten from Quest

Chandler, AZ Johnny Ahten’s weekend at Firebird International Raceway ended in the first round with an expensive trip down the John Ahten photo courtesy of CostabileProductionsquarter mile. Ahten’s pride took a hit with the loss, but so did his pocketbook. During the run a section of the rear wing bent and a brand new set of tires ended up getting chunked. This is not the way Ahten Racing wanted to start the first West Regional race of the year.

“I’m still working on the jigsaw puzzle that is this car,” said Ahten. “I know once we get things in the right place she will go down the track the way I know she can. The team and I will not give up the fight to return to the 5.30’s.”

Qualifying was a mixed bag for the Island Renovations / 801 Racing / Fireman’ Brew Team. In the first round the Stump Puller experienced tireshake and a loss of traction. The scoreboard lit up with a 11.036 elapsed time and a pedestrian-like 80.41 mph.  The second round of qualifying held more hope. Johnny laid down a 5.526/252.95 that included a quick pedal slap to cure some down track tireshake. That pass that was good enough for the #6 slot with one round of qualifying to go.

Demke Out Early in Phoenix

CHANDLER, AZ – It’s safe to say that Chris Demke and the California-based Maddern Racing Top Alcohol Dragster team have had Chris Demkebetter racing weekends than the one they just went through at the LODRS West Region opener at Firebird Raceway. An escalating problem within the car’s oiling system prevented the team from progressing through eliminations as they would have liked.

“The motor wasn’t happy all through qualifying. I pedaled it to a 5.92 first run and 5.42 on the second run. The rod bearings were blackened after the run so we swapped motors. I had to pedal it again in the final qualifying session and ran 5.45. Again, more blackened rod bearings. Rather than continue to damage parts, we made the decision to skip eliminations and head home. We qualified sixth – it wasn’t worth it to damage more parts,” Chris said.
