NMCA WEST Returns to Auto Club Dragway!
The 2017 NMCA West VP Racing Fuel Muscle Car Nationals winds up the season at Auto Club Dragway October 13-
15 with the running of the Sixth Annual Mickey Thompson NMCA West Coast World Finals.
With Fall in the air this race has the makings to be one of the most competitive of the year as racers pull out all the stops, gunning for their last shot at a trip to the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle, a personal best, or perhaps even a class championship.
In many classes, championships are still up for grabs, including: ProCharger Outlaw Street where Johnny Coleman leads Michael Orban and Richard Morris – both of whom are within striking distance. Things are also super-close in Ultra Street where Mike Silva will be trying to hold off charges by Brian Greenberg and Dan Dagata.
It’s also tight in the index classes. In Classic Performance Nostalgia Street Car Mike Nordahl leads Merle Williams and Steve Cox into the final event of the year, while Brent Calvert is battling Greg Dreher in an attempt to defend his class title in Open Comp. Calvert Racing Quick Street is tight as well with defending class champ Marvin Roles trying to hold off Trey Summers and Randy Wilson, while in Champion Cooling Systems Pro Comp, Matt Treadway is in a three-way battle with Kenny Snow and Zach Meziere.
As with every NMCA West event there is more than just drag racing going on. While not so much a secret anymore, one of the best Autocross values in the Southwest can be found at each NMCA West event.
What makes this fun for both the racer and spectator is the level of experience needed to compete – none. There are several classes designated for all skill levels, allowing even novices to have a shot at testing their abilities.
Huge horsepower and extreme handling in the advanced classes make you wonder how they can navigate such tight corners, yet they do. Finding that fine line between finesse and disaster is the core of every autocross racer, regardless of skill level.
