Weekend Results from the NHRA Summit Series Bracket Race at Alamo City Motorplex

Marion, Tx – Alamo City Motorplex hosted race #5 of their NHRA Summit Series Brackets Races on the 1/8 mile track Saturday night. On-track action was as hot as the south Texas sun with track temperatures early in the evening still hovering around 130. As the sun set, the track surface became a little more manageable(90’s), but gave tuners some denser air to deal with as the humidity increased.

Near the midway point of the season the points races are beginning to shape up in all classes. The Super Pro is being led by former asphalt circle track driver Greg Meuth by seven over Ronnie Hernandez, with David Bills, M. Deberry and Jonathan Hernandez in the top five.

Corky Weeks leads the way in the Pro class with a five point margin over Gene Herbold, with Lee Miller and Dennis Soefje tied for third fifteen behind. Ron Gordner paces the Sportsman field with D. Hamilton and Shelby Spencer tied for second twelve back.

In the Motorcycles its Ricky Kay with a good twenty point gap back to Devin Monoco and almost three rounds over Brenda Kay in third. Reilly Garceau tops the Jr. Dragster stats with a five point advantage ahead of Kayden Ashmore and eleven up on Caden Meuth in third.

Bills Best in Box Bash

San Antonio’s David Bills closed the points gap on Greg Meuth marching through the 33-car field for the win over Michael Gandy(Wadsworth) in the Super Pro finals. Bills took trailered his points rival Meuth twice, then got a break in the finals. Gandy, in his 68 Chevy Camaro, went .149 red allowing Bills, in his 04 Undercover Dragster to cruise to the victory at mere highway speed.

David Bills(4.44) 5.96@ 81.11 defeats Michael Gandy(5.55) 5.68 @ 123.80(red)

In Eliminations Bills bested R. Fischer, Aaron Cole, Meuth(twice) and Brent Ritter. Gandy lost in round 1, rebought and then beat Ronnie Hernandez, Candace Ritter, Mike Atkinson and Carlos Carrasco sr.

Herbold Hustles to Pro Pay Day

Gene Herbold(Seguin) was best in the 34-car Pro field picking up points on Corky Weeks in the championship chase. G. Herbold squared off against Wendall Dockery(San Antonio) in the finals. G. Herbold, in his Herbold Water Well Drilling, 62 Chevy Nova got about 2/100th on the line that Dockery, in his D&E Glass 69 Chevy Camaro, wasn’t able to make up at the stripe.

On his way to the finals G. Herbold knocked out Jr Friedeck, G. Hernandez, Anthony Montoya, R. Trevino and D. Tschoepe. Dockery rebought after after a round 1 loss to points rival Weeks, the took out Chuck Van Buren, M. Roup, and Scott Ball with a round 3 bye.

Sportsman(Street)

Floyd Flies to First Victory of Season

Rhett Floyd(Boerne) found his way back to the Winners Circle in the 10-car Sportsman field after a drought dating back to last year. Floyd, in his O’Bryant Automotive, 2008 GMC Sierra, paired up with Trent Johnson in his 2010 Dodge Charger in the finals. Floyd got almost 2/10th on the tree, an advantage Johnson couldn’t make up on the top end.

Rhett Floyd(10.32) 10.38 @ 68.58 defeats Trent Johnson(8.08) 8.13 @ 88.76

Floyd bested points leader Ron Gordner, W. Donnell, Silvia Zemgals and G. Hernandez on his way to the finals. Johnson got a round 4 bye, and bettered P. Hines, Shelby Spencer and G. Hernandez.

Motorcycle

Mathews Takes Motorcycle Money

Seventeen bikes entered the Motorcycle class with Michael Matthews and Charles Mingle going head to head in the finals. Matthews(LaGrange) on his 2005 Suzuki won at the starting line getting 4/10th on Mingle(LaVernia) on his Suzuki, despite running his number.

Michael Matthews(5.42) 5.55 @ 112.53 defeats Charles Mingle(7.20) 7.20 @ 97.95

In eliminations Matthews took out points leader Ricky Kay in the semi’s J. Marlett, D. Flores and T. Thomas. Mingle knocked our Brenda Kay, C. Ryan, and Randy Monte.

Jr. Dragster

Garceau Grabs Jr. Dragster Gold

Reilly Garceau(Von Ormy) increased the points lead going through the 7-car Jr. Dragster field matching up with Gracie O’Rourke(LaVernia) in the finals. R. Garceau, in the 04 Hardens Jr Dragster got the win in the double break out finish going the least under the dial in number.

Reilly Garceau(7.90) 7.85 @ 78.97 defeats Gracie O’Rourke(9.06) 8.99 @ 71.05(double break out)
