Toyota Racing – Shawn Langdon

How do you feel going into the Countdown?

“I feel good in the car. We’ve been making adjustments to try to make the car react better and I think we’ve accomplished that. I think we’re in a good position heading into the playoffs. This is the best car we’ve had and I feel I’m driving my best. This is our time to shine.”

How important is the Countdown opener at Maple Grove?

“The year that we won the championship, I actually went out in the first round at the Countdown opener, but we don’t have the luxury of starting as high this year. We were able to gain a spot and move up to eighth in Indianapolis, but we’re going to need to come out strong at Maple Grove. We’re starting the Countdown 80 points behind the leader and we need to start moving up quickly if we’re going to have a chance.”

It seems like you and the car have taken a big step up over the last month or two.

“The Global Electronic Technology Camry guys have been doing great job. We’ve qualified in the top half of the field at every race over the past two months and in the top six in three of the last six, so we’re making progress.  We’ve been so close. We’ve had four races in a row now that we lost by a minimal amount –two ten-thousandths of a second (one inch) to Courtney (Force) in Seattle, by ten one-thousandths of a second at Indy (vs. Matt Hagan). It’s nothing to hang your head about, we just need to turn those results around.  Now we have a little more information moving forward.”
