Modern Racing Making an Impact at U.S. Nationals

MOORESVILLE, NC — Just a few weeks after launching Modern Racing, a new venture designed to provide a multitude of products and services for the motorsports industry, Justin Elkes is excited to make an impact at “the world’s biggest drag race,” the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

Elkes will continue his tuning duties for 2016 U.S. Nationals Pro Stock champion Chris McGaha and his Harlow Sammons Camaro, as well as continuing to work with Frank Manzo on Mike Castellana’s supercharged Al-Anabi Performance Pro Mod Camaro. Deric Kramer has raced a partial schedule in 2017 with his American Ethanol Pro Stock Dart, and he’ll call on Elkes once again for tuning consultation at Indy.

The prestige of the U.S. Nationals always makes it a destination for racers running a partial schedule or those making their first appearance of the season. This year is no different, and several teams have turned to Modern Racing to prepare for the event.

Longtime Pro Stock standout Larry Morgan will make his return to the class this weekend with a Jerry Haas Camaro prepared by Modern Racing and powered by an engine from Chris McGaha’s shop in Odessa, TX.

“Larry hasn’t raced Pro Stock since the class switched to electronic fuel injection, so we had to completely rewire and prepare the car for EFI,” Elkes said. “We had him in and out in a matter of days, and I’ll be helping with the car this weekend as he’ll be running out of McGaha’s camp. One of the last times I worked with Larry we won on the mountain in Denver, so we’ll see if we can tap into some of that chemistry once again.”

Morgan’s car isn’t the only one that the Modern Racing team readied for Indy in short order.

“I’ll be busy at the track this weekend, but we’ve been even busier at the shop,” Elkes admitted. “Over the last couple weeks, we’ve been preparing a nitrous-assisted 2015 Camaro for Al-Anabi Performance that will be driven by Richie Stevens Jr.”

From naturally aspirated Pro Stocks to nitrous and blown Pro Mods, Elkes and the Modern Racing team are showing the range of their capabilities.

“The U.S. Nationals will be a great showcase for what Modern Racing is all about,” said Elkes.
