DELAWARE, OH – Growing up around a racetrack, you can’t help but fall in love with the cars that made a big impression on you. Mike Coughlin is just weeks away from reuniting with one of his first automotive loves.

Coughlin hired Woody’s Hot Rodz of Bright, Ind., to rebuild and enhance a 1971 Chevy Vega GT, and the build is almost complete.

“With the LSX-454 engine we’ve put in it right out of the JEGS catalog, it would probably make a pretty quick race car,” Coughlin said. “But the closest this car will get to the starting line of a drag strip is the parking lot. Don’t get me wrong, I plan on driving this car.”

The Vega was a light-bodied car assembled in Ohio that screamed for big horsepower from the time it rolled off the factory floor. Coughlin said he’s seen photos as the build has progressed, and can’t wait to see the final product.

“I remember seeing these cars race when I was a kid and always wanted one,” Coughlin said. “The guys at Woody’s have been filling this car with parts off the JEGS shelves and when it’s ready it’s going to be a real beauty. I can’t wait to turn the ignition key in this car and drive it.
