Local Champion Mike Janis to be part of Lancaster’s Street Outlaw Event

Dominator forced to cancel appearance because of mechanical issues

LANCASTER, NY – On Wednesday night, Discovery Channel Street Outlaw driver Dominator (Joe Woods) was forced to cancel his Friday night appearance at Lancaster National Dragway because of mechanical issues.

A scramble by track management to fill the void found almost every other Street Outlaw driver from the show was booked or couldn’t attend. So, a call to WNY resident and two-time world champion drag racer synonymous with supercharged power, Mike Janis, was made and he will now be racing his famous Pro Mod as part of the show.

Janis will join Kamikaze Chris and a few dozen Buffalo Street Outlaws for the highly-anticipated event on Friday, June 30 at the 1/8-mile dragstrip. Also racing that night will be Lancaster’s Mallare Enterprises Top, McGard Mod, Tread City Tire Street and Hebler’s Sales & Service Bikes/Sleds classes to make for a full Franco’s Pizza Friday Night Drags show.

“It was unfortunate Dominator hurt his motor last week and couldn’t get the parts he needed to make the trip to Buffalo,” said Tim Packman, Track President. “He didn’t want to just show up without his famous 1967 Dodge Dart and not be able to race. Rob Kozak (Kozak Motorsports Marketing) got every number he could from Kamikaze Chris and started working the phones.

“Between filming for the show and being booked at other tracks around the country, they just couldn’t make the trip to the 716. Mike Janis is a local legend and world-renowned driver in drag racing. When you own the second-most wins in Pro Mod history and two World Championships, that says a lot of about his ability.”

Janis will be racing in the Street Outlaw Unlimited Tire Class and also taking on other Buffalo Street Outlaws drivers like Mike Zmuda in Time Bomb during the event.

“We’re normally so busy with our NHRA schedule that we don’t get a chance to run at our favorite track,” said Janis. “Between that and our business, Jan Cen Motorsports, and our Mike Janis SuperChargers line we never get to run Lancaster. But, I do make it out a few times a year to watch.

“This time it will be great to be a part of this event and hopefully lineup with Kamikaze Chris. This is an exciting opportunity for us to run in front of our fans, friends and family here in WNY.”

Front gates open at 5 p.m. when Time Trials begin. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students 12 to 17 and 11 and under are just $5 each. For more information, check out the track’s website www.LancasterNationalSpeedway.com.
