Langdon Top Toyota in NHRA Arizona Nationals Qualifying

PHOENIX, AZ – Shawn Langdon qualified seventh in Top Fuel to lead Toyota into Sunday’s NHRA Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. Saturday’s final round of qualifying was cancelled due to weather.

Langdon was one of just a handful of drivers to make it cleanly down the track in Saturday’s only session with a 3.722-second pass at 325.43 mph to climb from 15th to seventh. He will have lane choice in his round one match-up with Clay Millican.

Doug Kalitta registered a 3.740-second run in Friday’s opening round of the weekend, earning two bonus points for finishing second in the session. The current Top Fuel point leader will face off against Shawn Reed in the first round of eliminations.

Antron Brown struggled in his opening run of the weekend, but then followed with a solid 3.786 to place 13th. He will face Terry McMillen in Sunday’s opening round.

In Funny Car, Toyota Camry drivers J.R. Todd and Alexis DeJoria each ran a 3.916-second pass, with Todd getting the higher seed on speed (317.64-316.30).  He will start from the ninth position on Sunday against Ron Capps, while DeJoria is tenth and faces Tim Wilkerson. She is coming off a semifinal showing at Pomona in her first race since coming out of a two-year retirement.

Jeff Diehl qualified 16th and will take on pole-sitter Matt Hagan on Sunday, with the winner taking on the winner of Todd-Capps.

Sunday’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series eliminations will be televised on FS1, with coverage scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. (ET).
