CAYUGA, ON – Some consistent passes and a quick reaction time in the final gave Randy Hope the victory in the second Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products event, held on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park June 12.

The Pro Bike racer from London, Ontario, defeated Pro Sled racer Michael Swartz of Woodstock, Ontario in the event final to win his first PBSS race.

This new series is comprised of Pro Motorcycle drag and Pro Snowmobile drag machines, and each division races separately, and the top eliminators from each division are paired for an event final.

Hope ran an 8.723-second, 141.37 mph winning pass over the 8.717-second, 164.87 mph effort of Michael Swartz. Hope qualified number three on the Pro Bike side with his Lil’ Hope Racing 1978 1500-cc Kawasaki, and Swartz was number one on the Pro Sled side riding the Team Modfather 2003 Yamaha RX-1 1000-cc, turbo-charged sled.

“We had a pretty good day,” said Hope after his win. “Pretty well everything went according to plan. The track was good, and we had no problems.”

Hope eliminated Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario with his 2004 Raceworks Suzuki in the final of the Pro Bike. Semi-finalists were Bob McDonald of Woodstock, Ontario, and Dave Vandereyken of Acton, Ontario. John Orfanidis had qualified number one on the Pro Bike side, but red-lit in the opening round.

Another red-light was shown to Dave Marshall in the Pro Sled final when he met up with Swartz. Marshall, of Prescott, Ontario, on his 2010 Proline with Yamaha power, fouled in the final. Swartz ran an 8.945-second, 163.51 mph pass, while Marshall’s 8.778 at 170.19 was all for naught.

Semi-finalists in the Pro Sled division included Chris Bondi of Aurora, Ontario, and Bill Anderson of Seaforth, Ontario.

After two events, Hope leads the PBSS 2011 Championship Point Award Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products with 518 points. Second at present is Anderson with 478 points. Marshall and Miller are tied in next spot with 460 points, and Vandereyken is next with 438 points.

The third race in the 2011 PBSS will take place at the Cayuga Dragway July 1-3 during the track’s Canadian Nitro Nationals.
