KALITTA, TODD LEAD TOYOTA IN WINTERNATIONALS QUALIFYING

POMONA, CA – Doug Kalitta placed fifth in Top Fuel, while J.R. Todd qualified seventh in Funny Car to lead Toyota in qualifying for Sunday’s Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

Kalitta’s 3.703-second pass in Saturday’s first session pushed him up into the top five, one spot ahead of fellow Toyota driver Antron Brown.  Richie Crampton placed tenth and will square off with his teammate Kalitta in Sunday’s opening round of eliminations, while Brown will race Mike Salinas.

Todd, who debuted in a Funny Car in Pomona a year ago, registered a 3.908-second run in his DHL Toyota Camry to earn one bonus point for finishing in the top three in the final qualifying session on his way to the seventh position overall. He will match up with John Force in tomorrow’s first round.

Cruz Pedregon also qualified in the top half of the field with his Snap-on Camry in the eighth position after finishing in the top five in Friday’s first day of qualifying.  Pedregon will race Tommy Johnson on Sunday.

Del Worsham placed 11th, one position ahead of Shawn Langdon, who will make his Funny Car debut from the 12th spot.  Worsham will take on Tim Wilkerson, while Langdon faces Ron Capps in his first-ever Funny Car race.

Sunday’s NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Lucas Oil Winternationals eliminations will be shown live on FS1 beginning at 5:00 p.m. (all times EDT).
