KALITTA TAKES TOYOTA TO FINALS AT NORWALK NHRA

NORWALK, OH – Doug Kalitta advanced to the Top Fuel final round to lead Toyota at today’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at the Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

Kalitta, who earned his third consecutive number one qualifier at the track on Saturday, defeated Troy Buff, Tony Schumacher and Leah Pritchett before losing in the finals by two one-thousandths of a second to Steve Torrence on a hole-shot.

“It’s definitely disappointing to come up that close and not get the win for Mac Tools, Toyota and all of our great supporters,” said Kalitta. “It felt great to run that strong all weekend. We were the number one qualifier and ran the overall quick time in three of the four passes today. We’re headed in the right direction and I am confident the win is coming soon.”

Antron Brown advanced to the second today with a win over Dom Lagana before losing to Pritchett in the second round.  Shawn Langdon ran the quickest pass of the first round in the left-lane with a strong 3.787 run, only to lose on a hole-shot to Terry McMillen by just .007 seconds in the first round. Troy Coughlin Jr. also lost in the first round today.

In Funny Car, Alexis DeJoria defeated fellow Toyota driver Del Worsham with an impressive 3.972-second pass in the opening round before falling to Robert Hight in round two.  Despite missing three races, DeJoria has closed to within 50 points of the final playoff berth.

J.R. Todd was beaten by Tommy Johnson, while Cruz Pedregon was eliminated by eventual winner Jack Beckman in their first-round match-ups.

The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is off next weekend before resuming at the Route 66 Raceway in suburban Chicago for the Fallen Patriots Route 66 Nationals, July 7-9.
