Las Vegas, Nev. – The NHRA Fuel Coupe fraternity will expand by one driver with a familiar last name, when the 2011 Full Throttle Drag Racing Series rolls into Baytown, Texas. Jon Capps will return to the wheel of the Paul Smith Racing Team Monte Carlo bodied flopper at the 24th Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals contested at Royal Purple Raceway.

“It is a welcomed relief to finally return to the NHRA big show after a brief hiatus,” noted Capps, who currently works as an admissions counselor for WyoTech Automotive, Transportation and Technical College (http://www.wyotech.edu).

“Ever since debuting with Paul Smith’s team in April 2007, I’ve scratched and clawed for a successful return. I have had a great relationship with Paul and his team and his amazing sponsors for the past few years and I am confident we will enjoy a great weekend of racing and some hometown hospitality from our great marketing partners next weekend in Baytown.”

The hometown Capps is referring to comes from the two individuals who have made it possible for him to return to the NHRA Full Throttle Series; David Biesenbach, the owner of Biesenbach Inc. (http://www.biesenbach.com) and Henry Gutierrez the owner of Bexar Waste. Both companies are headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.

Paul Smith Racing has continued support from Valvoline, Rock Batteries, Boninfante Performance Clutch Parts and grinders, Fram/Autolite and Headman Headers.  “I can’t begin to thank David, Henry and all of the sponsors connected to the Paul Smith Racing Team for their confidence and support they have given to this team for the Baytown weekend.”

Jon made his NHRA professional debut in April 2007 behind the wheel of the same Paul Smith owned and tuned Funny Car he will drive in Houston. “I feel good about building off of the momentum the Paul Smith Racing team gained  after a good showing at the recently completed 4-Wide NHRA Nationals,” Capps said. “Bodie (Smith’s son John) and the crew did a great job last weekend running a solid 4.14 in qualifying and earned a first round win to boot. Paul is an exceptional tuner and I know he will give me a safe and consistent car to drive in Houston.”

Jon currently drives the Jungle Jim Nostalgia Funny Car for Henry Gutierrez and the “Texas Jungle” Racing Team.  Capps also competed in a variety of USAC and open-wheel cars on oval tracks. His versatility led to a stunt-driving career, which began with TV commercials as well as being a driver and technical advisor to the highly successful NASCAR-spoofed movie “Talladega Night’s – The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.”
