JON CAPPS RIDES MOMENTUM INTO ATLANTA

Commerce, GA – After a successful qualifying effort last week in Houston, Texas at the NHRA Springnationals, Jon 
Capps is east bound and down and will return to the seat of Paul Smith’s Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car this weekend at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals contested at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga.
Capps, the 41-year old admissions counselor for WyoTech Automotive, Transportation and Technical College (http://www.wyotech.edu) from Las Vegas, Nev. has not come down for the virtual high of competing in the National Hot Rod Association’s premier Funny Car division for the first time since 2007. Although the Paul Smith owned and tuned Funny Car lost in a one round battle with perennial fan favorite Tim Wilkerson, Capps is convinced the Paul Smith Racing team can build off the positive momentum gained at Royal Purple Raceway last weekend.
“I am looking forward to Atlanta this week after a great weekend in Houston”, noted Capps, who qualified in the 15th position last week in Houston. “Everybody at Paul Smith Racing and our marketing partners Biesenbach Inc, Bexar Waste and Valvoline were very pleased not only with our effort, but the great media coverage we received. This sport has some very passionate journalists who covers it, and we truly appreciate the hard work they put in promote our team and the great companies who provide us with the funding to race. I especially want to thank Force Entertainment for including me in the Nitro Rewind from last week. That was cool.”
This week Headman Headers (http://www.headman.com) will join the team as a racing industry company with local ties as the Husler Racing Hedders division of Headman Husler is located in Alpharetta, Ga. Hedman Hedders began as a one man shop in 1954. Originally designed for straight-line drag racers, word spread quickly about Hedman’s reputation for building hedders that gave customers the best boost in power for their dollar. It wasn’t long before Hedman Hedders were the brand of choice among racing’s elite names such as Don Garlits, Warren Johnson, Shirley Muldowney, Bob Chandler and his BIG FOOT Race Team, and the IROC series.
“Last race was nice to put behind us as my return to the NHRA big stage,” Capps continued. “It was great to get my feet wet again, however, I feel a lot more comfortable in this very competitive car after 5-good laps. We can now turn our focus to showing the performance that Paul Smith and his team are known for.”
Paul Smith Racing has continued support from Valvoline, Rock Batteries, Boninfante Performance Clutch Parts and grinders, Fram/Autolite. “The support from these marketing partners allows us to continue chasing a dream and put forth a solid effort each time we race,” Capps concluded. “They have been together with Paul and his team for several years. And I thank them personally for continuing to support my racing goals.”
