DELAWARE, OH – The 2011 New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix & Family Day will have an added boost of horsepower this year thanks to world champion drag racers Troy Coughlin and Jeg Coughlin Jr. The New Albany Classic will be held this Sunday.

Both men will display their racecars at the 14th annual fundraising affair.  The event is 100 percent underwritten to ensure all proceeds will benefit the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence. The Coalition works to break the cycle of family violence in homes, schools, workplaces and neighborhoods throughout the community.

“The work The Coalition does with the Grand Prix should be commended,” Troy Coughlin said. “It’s an honor to have our racecars as a part of this event. My daughters, Paige and Kelly, are both aspiring equestrians who have been riding competitively for three seasons. They’re thrilled we’re involved because they’re anxious to see the international stars ride in the Grand Prix.”

The racecars on display will include Troy’s 3,300-horsepower, twin-turbocharged JEGS.com Pro Mod Camaro and Jeg Jr.’s 1,400-horsepower JEGS.com Chevrolet Cobalt he drove to back-to-back NHRA world Pro Stock titles in 2007 and 2008.

As it will be an adjustment for Troy to go from driving 3,300 horsepower to watching one, his daughters have assured him that it will be a lot of fun. “It’s neat to see their enthusiasm. It’s just like I was as a kid when I’d go to the drag races…I couldn’t wait to grow up and race as a pro. Well, they can’t wait to grow up and ride at the top level,” said Troy Coughlin.

The New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix & Family Day will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Tween Brands Concert at The Classic presented by Justice kicking off at 11 a.m. The concert will feature musical acts Big Time Rush, New Hollow and Greyson Chance. Welcoming ceremonies for the Grand Prix begin at 2 p.m., with the competition starting at 2:30pm. The event is scheduled to conclude at 5:00p.m. All day passes at $15 for ages 13 and over, admission for children 12 and under is free with a ticket.  More information can be found at www.thenewalbanyclassic.com.
