Janis Claims Second Minute Man With Win in St. Louis

Madison, Il. (August 10, 2009) – Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, but even when you’re good a little luck doesn’t hurt. That’s how the Aeroquip backed team of Mike Janis felt as they left Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois after winning the ADRL Hardee’s Gateway Drags II.

The Aeroquip team made their way to the finals after qualifying his Davis Technologies equipped ’67 Firebird 10th with a 3.935 and getting by Brian Daniels in round one, Wes Johnston in round two and Frankie “The Mad Man” Taylor in the semis.

In the finals Janis was to square off for the first time with two time and current ADRL Pro Extreme Champ, Jason Scruggs but due to parts attrition Scruggs was unable to make the call giving Janis a bye run in the finals. Janis took the opportunity of the solo run to lay down an impressive 3.863 pass for the massive crowd at Gateway International Raceway. The win marked Janis’ second trip to the winner’s circle this season.

“We had some lucky breaks today but we also put down some good numbers along the way,” said Janis.  “It would’ve been great to line up against Jason (Scruggs) in the finals but sometimes you have to take them as you get them.”

Aeroquip crew chief Mike Janis Jr. spoke highly of Jason Scruggs after the event. “The guy’s a class act. He came over and congratulated us on the win showing what great character he has. He and his guys are a hard working bunch. I’m sure if there’s anything they could’ve done to make it to the final they would’ve. We’ve never had the chance to line up next to him but I’m sure it’ll happen soon enough and to tell you the truth, like many fans, I can’t wait,” said Janis.
