GRAND BLANC, MI – The DeNooyer Chevrolet HTR-SS454 Camaro will be the centerpiece of GM Performance Parts’ (GMPP) display at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach collector car auction, April 7-9. It is one of the two dealer-built supercars featured on the cover of the 2011 GM Performance Parts catalog.

The HTR-SS454 Camaro is powered by GMPP’s LSX454 crate engine, making 620 horsepower and 590 lb.-ft. of torque. The LSX454 (part number 19244611) – highlighted in detail in the GM Performance Parts catalog – is delivered in long-block form, allowing the builder to finish the engine with the induction system of his or her choice.

DeNooyer (www.denooyer.net) and build partner Redline Motorsports (www.redline-motorsports.net) used an LS7 intake manifold and other production-based parts sourced from the GMPP catalog to complete Camaro’s engine.

“The HTR-SS454 is the spiritual successor to the dealer-built supercars of the late Sixties,” says Dr. Jamie Meyer, product integration manager for GM Performance Parts.

“The combination of the heritage-inspired Camaro and GMPP crate engines is sparking a new generation of supercars, but with greater power and refinement than anything offered in the classic muscle car era.”

In addition to the LSX454 DeNooyer Camaro, the GMPP display at Barrett-Jackson will include the latest  in engines and engine parts, including small-block, big-block and LS crate engines.

The small-block portfolio includes everything from the inexpensive 350/290HP – GMPP’s best-selling engine – to the fuel-injected Ram Jet 350 and big-torque 383-cubic-inch engines. On the big-block side, vintage 427- and 454-inch combinations anchor a lineup that also includes the ultimate in horsepower for the street or track: GMPP’s ZZ572/620 Deluxe and ZZ572/720R Deluxe

“GM Performance Parts is leading the industry with great, new high-performance LSX parts for LS engines, but our legacy was built on the classic small-block and big-block engines. We remain the go-to source for horsepower solutions for enthusiasts using them in their street rods, muscle cars, trucks and race cars,” said Dr. Meyer.

“Throughout the weekend, our display will be staffed with local dealer representatives and product experts from our engineering department, so you can get your crate engine and installation questions answered on the spot and get back to the fun of the auction.”

GMPP will also hand out the latest edition of its comprehensive catalog, which offers detailed product information and installation tips for the entire range of crate engines and engine parts, as well as accessories for the newest Chevrolets, including Corvette, Camaro, Silverado and Cruze. The catalog also includes information on GM-licensed restoration parts, including Dynacorn reproduction bodies for classic trucks, Camaros and Chevelles.

HTR-SS454 Camaro details

The DeNooyer 454 Camaro takes the GMPP LSX454 crate engine and adds an port fuel injection system – using the LS7 intake kit (part number 12610435), which includes the injectors, fuel rails and 90mm throttle body – to its LS7-style LSX six-bolt cylinder heads.

The engine has an all-forged rotating assembly and an 11.0:1 compression ratio. A GMPP front end accessory drive system was added, too (part number 19155067), along with a custom flywheel and ZR1 clutch matched to the six-speed manual transmission.

With the custom engine installed and properly tuned, chassis-dyno testing of the Camaro delivered a strong 520 horsepower and 530 lb.-ft. of torque at the rear wheels – or right at the 620-hp/590-lb.-ft. estimates from GMPP for the basic crate engine. The car’s driveline was beefed up to handle the 200-horsepower increase over stock, too, with stronger axles and stiffer bushings throughout.

Much like what was done with the legendary Baldwin-Motion cars of the Sixties, DeNooyer joined forces with an expert performance shop, Redline Motorsports, to help engineer and build the HTR-SS454. Redline is a leader in LS-based high-performance engines and vehicles, and it also collaborates with DeNooyer Chevrolet on the HTR-600 Camaro, which uses the 505-hp LS7 engine from the Corvette Z06 – also available as a crate engine from GMPP (part number 19211710).
