For the Love of Bracket Racing at Alamo City MotorPlex

Marion, TX – Alamo City MotorPlex kicked off its 2020 racing with a three-day Valentines weekend event run on the 1/8 mile, just outside of San Antonio. Friday night was an open test-n-tune with cool night temperatures providing big horsepower.

Saturday and Sunday would see the Super Pro(Box), Pro(No-box) and Jr Dragsters in action during the day with more moderate temperatures and a bit more heat in the track. After a couple rounds of time trials and a drivers meeting, the racing action kicked off around high noon under cloudy skies and a track temp of only 75. Throughout eliminations the track temp remained consistent in the mid 70’s.

This years ACMP season was briefly up in the air when last years track manager took leave and moved to north Texas. Elaine Hewitt stepped up to fill the role of track manager and keep racing alive. Hewitt, whose father raced at the track, is no stranger to ACMP. In the past she’s raced ACMP and Alamo Dragway, plus served in various positions since 2008, under different owners/promoters. Her knowledge of the track, local racers and racing, and past experience will be a huge asset to the facility.

Super Pro(Box)

Consistency paid off for Jeremy Hefler (Kennedale) in taking home the win the Super Pro finals against Ty Casey(Van Vleck), a graduate from the Jr. Dragsters. Hefler, running both classes, was on his number all day long. Hefler, in his Chevy Nova, but gave up 5/1000th on the tree to Casey in BBC powered, 2018 EZ Chassis, as Casey ran him down he went too quick by only about 4/100th and broke out.

Jeremy Hefler(6.01) 6.021 @ 113.55 defeats Ty Casey(4.66) 4.658 @ 148.12

Hefler outran Jeremy Wenske, Ryan Miller, Greg Meuth, Brian Wenske, D. Hartl and Russell Fields. Casey took out Jay Fitzgerald, Bontrager, Gilbert Sanchez, Jeff Rabedeau, Scott Ball and got the bye in the semi finals.

Pro(No-box)

The name Zampese is no stranger to the ACMP Winners Circle, but today is Mike Zampese(San Antonio) grabbing the Pro honors over Lee Miller(Canyon Lake). M. Zampese in his Driskell Race Engines powered American Race Car Chassis got a slight edge over Miller in his 1986 S-10 Pick Up on the light. Zampese was able to edge farther ahead at the stripe for the victory.

Mike Zampese(5.41) 5.422 @ 123.49 defeats Lee Miller(6.82) 6.865 @ 99.16

M. Zampese lost in round 1 to D. Alvarez rebought and bettered Gene Herbold, Littlefield, Jeremy Hefler and had a bye to the finals. Miller trailered Jamie Longoria, Todd Zampese, Robbie Sandoval, Gene Herbold and had a round 2 bye.

Jr. Dragster

It was pretty much a family affair in the Jr. Dragster class with all three Garceau kids(Von Ormy) making their way to the semi-finals. It was brother versus sister in the finals with Riley Garceau in his 2007 Terminator powered Motivational Chassis against his sister Carleigh Garceau in her 2004 Half Scale Chassis. Riley used a huge reaction time advantage to get the victory despite Carleight running closer to her dial in.

Riley Garceau(7.91) 8.016 @ 75.33 defeats Carleigh Garceau(8.95) 8.960 @ 72.59

R. Garceau bought back after a round 1 loss to A. Wenske then defeated Pennington, Aiden Alvarez with a bye in the semis. Ca. Garceau bested Cheyanne Flowers, Pennington and her brother Cody Garceau on her way to the finals.
