DSR Open House on Aug. 30 kicks off U.S. Nationals with salutes to 200th NHRA title

BROWNSBURG, IN Fans and friends of Don Schumacher Racing are invited to join the biggest team in professional racing in what DSRalready has been a banner year on Aug. 30 at the 8th annual Don Schumacher Racing Open House to benefit Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health and Camp Riley.

DSR reached its milestone 200th NHRA title on March 17 when reigning Top Fuel world champion Antron Brown won the title at Gainesville, Fla., moments after DSR’s Johnny Gray recorded No. 199 when he won in Funny Car and that total has grown to 216 after DSR won both titles last weekend at Brainerd, Minn.

Since last year’s Open House, DSR added its 10th and 11th NHRA world championships when Brown and Jack Beckman in Funny Car, won their respective crowns on Nov. 11. Also in the past year, DSR drivers set and hold all four performance records in NHRA’s two premier categories and have won 26 event titles including 20 so far this year.

And on May 2, DSR owner and legendary Funny Car driver Don Schumacher was inducted into the prestigious International Motorsports Hall of Fame at Talladega, Ala., along with NASCAR stars Rusty Wallace, Rick Hendrick and Dale Inman.

The free, festive event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on that Friday will feature a giant car and bike show, entertainment and appearances by each of DSR’s seven professional drivers along with Schumacher at DSR headquarters at 1681 E. Northfield Drive in Brownsburg.

The event kicks off the NHRA U.S. Nationals Labor Day Weekend, which opens with professional qualifying later that day at Lucas Oil Raceway located about 3 miles from DSR headquarters.

The Open House, which attracted a record-crowd of more than 4,000 fans last year and boosted DSR’s contributions to Riley past the $200,000 mark, invites all fans to celebrate DSR’s 200th NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series title and Schumacher’s induction.

The first 500 guests who arrive at the Open House after 10 a.m. will receive a free “DSR Win No. 200” sticker, commemorative Don Schumacher Hall of Fame Tribute autograph card and a chance to win a unique prize package of 40 1/24-scale DSR diecast collectibles from various seasons valued at a total of $3,500. (Additional raffle tickets will be available for $10 each.)
