Drew Skillman the clear leader for NHRA Road to the Future Award

WYNNEWOOD, OK – Elite Motorsports driver Drew Skillman has turned the battle for the NHRA Auto Club Road to Drew Skillmanthe Future Award into a skirmish.

Skillman, who drives the Ray Skillman Chevrolet in the Pro Stock class, has been the dominant rookie driver in NHRA’s professional classes. He has made the choice for the sport’s top rookie an easy one, especially after you consider:

  • He’s the only rookie to win in 2015 (beating teammate and points leader Erica Enders in St. Louis).
  • He has been to four final rounds, three more than every other rookie combined.
  • He has qualified No. 1 three times and is the only rookie to qualify No. 1.
  • He has 23 round-wins, more than twice the amount of the next rookie.
  • He’s the only rookie to qualify for the Countdown to the Championship.

The Road to the Future Award will be announced during the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series

Awards Ceremony, to be held Monday, Nov. 16, at Hollywood’s Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland.

Should Skillman win the award, he would join 2014 recipient Richie Crampton and some of the biggest names in the sport as winners of the prestigious honor, including Robert Hight, Jason Line, Antron Brown, Jeg Coughlin Jr., Mike Edwards, and Larry Dixon.

“That would be a huge honor,” Skillman said. “A lot of great drivers have won that, and I’d like to be a part of it. I think we’ve proved time and time again that we have the car and the success, and I’m a decent enough driver that I think we have a good shot at it.”
