CRAMPTON, PEDREGON LEAD TOYOTA IN PHOENIX NHRA QUALIFYING

PLANO, TX – Richie Crampton placed fifth in Top Fuel, while Cruz Pedregon was seventh in Funny Car to lead Toyota in qualifying for Sunday’s NHRA Arizona Nationals at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Phoenix, Arizona.

Crampton ran a 3.683 at 323.27 mph in Friday night’s session to earn the top five qualifying position – his best starting spot to date since joining the Kalitta Motorsports team at last year’s U.S. Nationals in September.  Crampton will square off with Scott Palmer in round one on Sunday.

Antron Brown will start tomorrow’s Top Fuel eliminations from the eighth position, while Doug Kalitta, who won the season-opener at Pomona, qualified 11th.  Brown will race Mike Salinas, while Kalitta faces Billy Torrence in the opening round.

Pedregon registered a 3.888 second pass at a career-best speed of 333.25 mph to qualify in the top half of the field for the second consecutive race in his Snap-on Toyota Camry.  He will start one position ahead of DHL Camry driver J.R. Todd, who also has earned spots in the top half of the field in back-to-back races. Both drivers earned bonus points for finishing in the top three in a session this weekend. Todd takes on Pomona winner Matt Hagan on Sunday.

After problems on Friday forced him to miss the opening qualifying session, Shawn Langdon rebounded to run back-to-back 3.937 and 3.927-second passes on Saturday, establishing new personal bests in each run as he prepares to start his second Funny Car race.  Langdon and Pedregon will meet in an all-Camry first-round showdown.

Del Worsham rounded out the Toyota Funny Car contingent in the 16th spot and will match-up against pole-sitter Brittany Force in the first round of eliminations.

Today’s qualifying show can be seen tonight at 11 p.m. on FS1, while Sunday’s NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Arizona Nationals eliminations will be shown on FS1 beginning at 6:30 p.m. (all times ET).
