Mission, BC –Last weekend the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association held their third event of the 2012 season at Mission Raceway Park in Mission, British Columbia, Canada. It marked the first time the WCOPMA held an event outside of the ‘States and Mike Maggio made sure it would be memorable.

Maggio led qualifying with a string of three 5-second runs, the best being a 5.826/253.73 to take to number 1 spot. Not far behind Maggio was Dan Nickelson with a career best 5.890/229.29 followed by Rod Burbage’s 6.022/239.36. Jay Syverson, Joe Delehay, Wade Sjostrom, Duane Grosart and Trevor Lowe filled out the rest of the 8-car field.

Unfortunately Lowe had a top end crash during the second qualifying session on Saturday. Thankfully he walked away from the accident with no serious injury but would not be able to return on Sunday for eliminations which gave Maggio a single in round 1. Maggio ripped off another 5-second pass going 5.905/261.09 on his first round single; a world record MPH number for a Pro Mod type car that is stirring quite a debate throughout the internet.

Mission Raceway to host the next event on the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association schedule

Courtesy of WCOPMA

Mission, BC – For the first time ever the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association will travel across the border to compete internationally this weekend (July 6-8) in Canada at Mission Raceway Park, located in Mission, British Columbia.

Many racers are anticipating the event as great weather is projected throughout the weekend in the low 70’s with very little chance of rain, combine that with an actual track elevation of only 25 feet above sea level as well as a killer racing surface and record times are expected.

Mike Maggio is making the long haul from Southern California with his 1970 Camaro which ran in the mid 5.70’s last November at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. That team is going up with a big goal, to reset the world record for a doorslammer in the quarter-mile.

Burbage gets opening win of the 2012 WCOPMA season

Written by Steve Bunker

Boise, ID – Rod Burbage drove his Spec-Rite Converter sponsored 1958 Corvette to a win this past weekend at Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho. With a short field Burbage grabbed the number one qualifying position away from Dan Nickelson during the final qualifying session.

Nickelson came out of the box with a 6.271 @ 230.41 in the first qualifying session on Friday evening to take to top spot when no one else could get down the 115 degree track. The New Family had the track prepped the best they could given the conditions but most of the drivers still overpowered the track.

During the second qualifying session on Saturday the track came around and so did the performances. Burbage ran a 6.311 @ 223.93 to bump into the number two spot; Andy Neyer was in third with a 6.649 @ 210.03.

The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association makes some changes for upcoming 2012 season

Courtesy of WCOPMA

Anderson, CA – The 2012 season is underway for many associations but for the WCOPMA the first event isn’t until the last weekend in May, and it couldn’t come any sooner. Many racers are anticipating the upcoming season, and rightfully so, as new racers and sponsors are showing interest as well as a new set points/payout structure which also includes a championship payout bonus for the top three in the final points standings at the end of the year.

As always, the WCOPMA pays down to the first round loser but it varied at each event during the past three seasons. For 2012 and beyond there will be set payouts so the racers know what they’ll be getting before they hit the track. Also the top three drivers in the final point’s battle at the end of the year will receive an additional bonus for their accomplishment.
