“The Big One” this weekend for the WCOPMA

Sonoma, CA – It’s that time of the year again when the stars line up, the weather gets good and the cars come out! Sonoma WCOPMA at SonomaRaceway’s NHRA Division 7 Drags are this weekend which will feature all the bracket action known to NHRA Divisional events plus the 5-second, 250 MPH West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association.

For many years, back to the very beginning of the WCOPMA series, everyone on the West Coast has been trying and hoping for a 16-car field to happen and the wait is finally over! Announced last week was 18 pre entered cars for this weekend’s event at Sonoma Raceway and it will be the first 16-car qualified field EVER for the WCOPMA.

WCOPMA Heads North this weekend to Boise, Idaho

Boise, ID The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association is making its third stop on the 2014 season schedule this weekend at Burbage Fox huntFirebird Raceway’s 36th Annual “Fox Hunt” event presented by Little Caesars Pizza.

Listed as “one of the coolest major events on the Firebird Raceway schedule”, the Fox Hunt action will kick off Friday and wrap up Saturday evening.

Originated by announcing legend Steve Evans in the 70’s at Irwindale Raceway, the Fox Hunt event has always offered one key principal: All Ladies are admitted Free. Drawing upon Evans’ near genius promotional insight, Firebird Raceway introduced this same concept to Idaho and eastern Oregon fans way back in 1977. Sandwiched halfway through the season the Fox Hunt has certainly become a real hit for both fans and racers alike.

WCOPMA headlines Bakersfield Super Chevy Show this weekend

Bakersfield, CA This weekend marks the second event of the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association’s (WCOPMA) 2014 season as Garrett Richardsthe club will headline Auto Club Famoso Raceway’s Super Chevy Show event in Bakersfield, California.

The opening event for the WCOPMA’s 2014 season was also held at Famoso Raceway in the cool month of March a few months back but it will be a different story this weekend as temperatures will be in the low-mid 100 degree range, making the teams have to dig out their summer time tune-ups.

Maggio wins, Burbage runner ups at West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association season opener

Bakersfield, CA – The Maggio Motorsports team did it again. This past weekend at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, 2014 WCOPMA Season Opener - BakersfieldCalifornia was the 2014 West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (WCOPMA) season opening event in conjunction with the National Hot Rod Diesel Association (NHRDA). Mike Maggio and his Maggio Motorsports team ran the table for their sixth WCOPMA event win since first racing with the group in 2011.

Of Maggio’s six total WCOPMA victories a total of five of them have been clean sweeps which included a number 1 qualifying spot, event win and low ET of the event…this past weekend’s victory was no different.

WCOPMA kicks off 2014 season this weekend

Bakersfield, CA – Winter has passed and the “off season” is done! The baddest outlaw pro mod cars on the West Coast hit the track this weekend, March 22, for the opening event of the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association’s 2014 season. After a successful 2013 season the WCOPMA has a great line up of cars headed to Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California for a 1-day event to start the year off.

The WCOPMA will be racing in conjunction with the National Hot Rod Diesel Association (NHRDA), an event that was a late addition to the schedule after the original season opening event was canceled for the March 1-2 weekend due to rain at Sonoma Raceway.

Myers wins WCOPMA Saturday Night Nitro event driving for Don Carter Racing

Bakersfield, CA The Don Carter Racing team took delivery of a brand new Jerry Bickel Race Cars 1969 Camaro in late June and from Don Carter Racingthe time they picked the car up it has been an all uphill ride. The first outing with the new car was July 4th at Sonoma Raceway where the team made 3 strong half track passes with driver Dan Myers behind the wheel.

The team’s first event entered was with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association at Sonoma Raceway during the July 19-21 weekend at the NHRA Division 7 event. The team was still in the learning process with the new car and through 3 qualifying sessions they barely failed to make the field with a 6.202/200.17 pass where the blower belt came off around the 1000’ mark, that was the team’s first attempt at a full quarter mile pass with the new lightweight car.

Meadors, Goodguys Race Team Win West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Championship!

Bakersfield, CA – Heading into last weekend’s one-day-only “Saturday Night Nitro” event at Auto Club Famoso Raceway north of Sonoma Nationals WCOPMABakersfield, Marc Meadors and the Goodguys Racing Team were seeking their 4th event win and 7th consecutive final round appearance in West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod competition this season. They got that and more! After qualifying in the second slot with a 6.083/244.52 then advancing to the final against Dan Myers, Meadors and the Goodguys team extended their series points lead far enough to sew up their first-ever season title with one-race still remaining.

Meadors in the flamed “Pure Hell2” Camaro and Myers, driving Don Carter’s Sacramento-based ’69 Camaro, were on a collision course all day & night. Both drivers qualified at the top of the ladder and were quickest and fastest in each elimination round heading into the climactic final.

WCOPMA run this weekend at Auto Club Famoso Raceway’s final “Saturday Night Nitro” event of the 2013 season

Bakersfield, CA – The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association has two events left for the 2013 season and the points battle is tight Dan Myersbetween the top four racers. Marc Meadors and the Goodguys Racing team have a chance to wrap up the title after this weekend but its going to take a good showing for that team and a bad outing for Rod Burbage who sits in the number two spot, most likely the battle will come down to the final event but this weekends event will be crucial in determining a champion.

This will be the first “Saturday Night Nitro” event that the WCOPMA group has been invited to attend. Auto Club Famoso Raceway started the Saturday Night series of events presented by Budweiser just a couple years ago and are trying to re-invent the 1-day, action packed show for fans to see it all without spending an entire weekend at the track. Headlined by the popular Nitro Nostalgia Funny Cars fans will also be able to see Nostalgia Fuel Dragsters, a handful of Nitro Burning Fuel Altereds, bracket racing all day and capped off with wild jet cars at night.

The WCOPMA gets ready for Firebird Raceway’s “Nightfire Nationals” event this weekend

Boise, ID The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association is getting ready for one of the biggest events of the year on the west coast, Dan MyersFirebird Raceway’s 42nd annual Nightfire Nationals in Boise, Idaho! The Nightfire event is one of the biggest events on our schedule for the last three seasons and guys like Bret Williamson, Rod Burbage and Dan Myers all stood in the Nightfire winners circle holding up the “Wally” and this year we’ll add another name to the list.

With a stout pre entry list there is no telling who the last man, or woman this year, will be in the winner’s circle. Names like defending Nightfire champ Dan Myers will be there driving the new Don Carter Racing 1969 Camaro which just ripped off 5.70’s in Sonoma two weekends ago, Marc Meadors lowered Firebird Raceway’s track record to a 5.91 backed up with a 5.93 in June at the tracks “Fox Hunt” event and Meadors was also the runner up at the Nightfire Nationals last year.

West Coast Outlaw Pro Mods and Jet Dragsters added to NHRA Sonoma Nationals this weekend

Sonoma, CA The hills of the Sonoma Valley will shake with 8,000 horsepower and 300 mph speeds when the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Sonoma Nationals WCOPMARacing Series comes to town for the NHRA Sonoma Nationals this weekend, July 26-28.

To augment the on-track action, the raceway has added an incredible line up of West Coast Outlaw Pro Mods, featuring six-second door slammers ranging from highly-modified nitrous Dusters to supercharged Camaros. Seven cars from the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Series will be featured on Friday, Saturday and Sunday which include last weekend’s WCOPMA event winner Marc Meadors driving the Pure Hell 2 Goodguys Racing Camaro, Make Maggio, Rod Burbage, Sean Renteria, Joe Lepone Jr. driving Derrol Hubbards nitrous-fed Duster, Jay Diedrich and Dan Myers in the new Don Carter Racing 1969 Camaro.
