Sonoma, CA – It’s that time of the year again when the stars line up, the weather gets good and the cars come out! Sonoma Raceway’s NHRA Division 7 Drags are this weekend which will feature all the bracket action known to NHRA Divisional events plus the 5-second, 250 MPH West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association.
For many years, back to the very beginning of the WCOPMA series, everyone on the West Coast has been trying and hoping for a 16-car field to happen and the wait is finally over! Announced last week was 18 pre entered cars for this weekend’s event at Sonoma Raceway and it will be the first 16-car qualified field EVER for the WCOPMA.
Boise, ID – The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association is making its third stop on the 2014 season schedule this weekend at Firebird Raceway’s 36th Annual “Fox Hunt” event presented by Little Caesars Pizza.
Listed as “one of the coolest major events on the Firebird Raceway schedule”, the Fox Hunt action will kick off Friday and wrap up Saturday evening.
Originated by announcing legend Steve Evans in the 70’s at Irwindale Raceway, the Fox Hunt event has always offered one key principal: All Ladies are admitted Free. Drawing upon Evans’ near genius promotional insight, Firebird Raceway introduced this same concept to Idaho and eastern Oregon fans way back in 1977. Sandwiched halfway through the season the Fox Hunt has certainly become a real hit for both fans and racers alike.
Bakersfield, CA – This weekend marks the second event of the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association’s (WCOPMA) 2014 season as the club will headline Auto Club Famoso Raceway’s Super Chevy Show event in Bakersfield, California.
The opening event for the WCOPMA’s 2014 season was also held at Famoso Raceway in the cool month of March a few months back but it will be a different story this weekend as temperatures will be in the low-mid 100 degree range, making the teams have to dig out their summer time tune-ups.
Bakersfield, CA – The Maggio Motorsports team did it again. This past weekend at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California was the 2014 West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (WCOPMA) season opening event in conjunction with the National Hot Rod Diesel Association (NHRDA). Mike Maggio and his Maggio Motorsports team ran the table for their sixth WCOPMA event win since first racing with the group in 2011.
Of Maggio’s six total WCOPMA victories a total of five of them have been clean sweeps which included a number 1 qualifying spot, event win and low ET of the event…this past weekend’s victory was no different.
Bakersfield, CA – Winter has passed and the “off season” is done! The baddest outlaw pro mod cars on the West Coast hit the track this weekend, March 22, for the opening event of the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association’s 2014 season. After a successful 2013 season the WCOPMA has a great line up of cars headed to Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California for a 1-day event to start the year off.
The WCOPMA will be racing in conjunction with the National Hot Rod Diesel Association (NHRDA), an event that was a late addition to the schedule after the original season opening event was canceled for the March 1-2 weekend due to rain at Sonoma Raceway.
Bakersfield, CA – The Don Carter Racing team took delivery of a brand new Jerry Bickel Race Cars 1969 Camaro in late June and from the time they picked the car up it has been an all uphill ride. The first outing with the new car was July 4th at Sonoma Raceway where the team made 3 strong half track passes with driver Dan Myers behind the wheel.
The team’s first event entered was with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association at Sonoma Raceway during the July 19-21 weekend at the NHRA Division 7 event. The team was still in the learning process with the new car and through 3 qualifying sessions they barely failed to make the field with a 6.202/200.17 pass where the blower belt came off around the 1000’ mark, that was the team’s first attempt at a full quarter mile pass with the new lightweight car.
Bakersfield, CA – Heading into last weekend’s one-day-only “Saturday Night Nitro” event at Auto Club Famoso Raceway north of Bakersfield, Marc Meadors and the Goodguys Racing Team were seeking their 4th event win and 7th consecutive final round appearance in West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod competition this season. They got that and more! After qualifying in the second slot with a 6.083/244.52 then advancing to the final against Dan Myers, Meadors and the Goodguys team extended their series points lead far enough to sew up their first-ever season title with one-race still remaining.
Meadors in the flamed “Pure Hell2” Camaro and Myers, driving Don Carter’s Sacramento-based ’69 Camaro, were on a collision course all day & night. Both drivers qualified at the top of the ladder and were quickest and fastest in each elimination round heading into the climactic final.
