The “Evil Outlaw” plans to run 2 races in 1 weekend

Courtesy of Firebaugh Express

Firebaugh, Ca Jay Diedrich was torn earlier in the season when he saw that the final West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association event and the final West Coast Hot Rod Association event were booked on the same weekend. Diedrich has been a big contender and supporter this 2010 season with both the WCOPMA and in the WCHRA’s Pro Street class. So to him, only one thing was to be done, figure out a way to attend both events and support both associations.

Diedrich has his eye on second place in points with both associations. Bret Williamson wrapped up the number 1 spot with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mods and Randy Walker will be leaving the big number 1 on his windshield for the WCHRA’s Pro Street class as he wrapped up the top spot for the 2010 season.

Diedrich only has 1 person to get around in the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod points standings and 2 people to get by in the West Coast Hot Rod Association’s Pro Street class.

Diedrich set event low ET; looses in semi-finals

Bakersfield, Ca – The third event for the West Coast Hot Rod Association’s (WCHRA) 2010 schedule was held last weekend, July 16-17, at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California. For the Firebaugh Express Racing team it was the second weekend racing in a row, the previous weekend Jay Diedrich won the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association event in Woodburn, Oregon…so the team was on a roll and looking for another great weekend of racing.

The WCHRA events in the summer months are rough since they are all night races and stretch well past midnight and temperatures are still in the 90 degree range. The first of 3 qualifying passes began around 8:00pm Friday night and was an uneventful session as no one made it down the track from A-to-B under power in the Pro Street class, Diedrich ended up in the 3rd spot. The team had to sit out the second session as they found a problem during the warm-up and did not have time to get it fixed. At the end of the second qualifying session Diedrich was sitting in the 5th qualifying spot.

Diedrich Heads to Bakersfield to run with the WCHRA

Story/Photo by Steve Bunker

Firebaugh, Ca – The Firebaugh Express Racing team is hot off a win last weekend in Oregon and will now head to Bakersfield, California this weekend to run with the West Coast Hot Rod Association in the Pro Street class.
Normally Diedrich has his “outlaw” buddies Rod Burbage and Bret Williamson accompany him at the WCHRA events but both of those teams will be absent at the “California Nationals” and Diedrich will be representing the screw-blown entry’s solo.

Coming off what was one of the team’s best racing events last weekend (by getting their first Pro Mod event win and setting a new personal best ET at 6.11) they are going to carry that momentum into Bakersfield with them and look to secure their second event win. Diedrich believes his team has found a way to consistently run quick ET’s and go rounds. The bad luck has bit them all year long, hopefully the win last weekend has turned the tables and the team can finish out the season strong!

“Evil Outlaw” Qualifies #2, Looses in Semi-Finals

Courtesy of Firebaugh Express Racing

Firebaugh, Ca – Jay Diedrich in his “Evil Outlaw” Firebaugh Express Racing 1957 Chevy will have to wait a little longer before he secures that first Pro Street/Pro Mod win as he exited in the Semi-Finals this past weekend running with the West Coast Hot Rod Association in Bakersfield, Ca.

Diedrich qualified in the number two spot after three sessions of qualifying with a strong 6.162 at 245.70. In the first round of eliminations he had a bye as his competitor, Rod Pearce, did not make the call. Jay was on a great pass until about 800 feet where he hit a snake on the race track and that sent him on a wild ride getting too close for comfort to the right hand wall. He quickly dumped the chutes to get straightened out which likely saved his car from major damage.

Diedrich Looking Forward to WCHRA “SCE Gaskets Summer Nationals”

Firebaugh, Ca – This weekend the Firebaugh Express Racing’s “Evil Outlaw” 1957 Chevy of Jay Diedrich will be attending the West Coast Hot Rod Association’s “SCE Gaskets Summer Nationals” event at the Auto Club Famoso raceway in Bakersfield, California.

After making multiple upgrades to the car and engine over the off-season, Diedrich is now confident that he has the car needed to get a win in the tough Pro Street class. In only two races with the new Brad-8 engine and 200+ pounds removed from the car he has already run career best ET’s in the mid 6-teens and has set two different MPH records; one with the West Coast Hot Rod Association (236.77) and the other with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (249.47).

Courtesy of the WCHRA

Sacramento, Ca – The Don Carter Motorsports 1953 Studebaker driven by TAFC pilot, Bret Williamson, is headed to Auto Club Famoso Raceway this weekend in Bakersfield, California looking for their second straight win with the new Studebaker which made its debut earlier this year.

The team is attending the West Coast Hot Rod Association’s “SCE Gaskets Summer Nationals” event this weekend June 4-5. The last race they attended (a West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association event) they swept the race after qualifying in the top spot, winning the event and running a track and association record of 5.90 in the first round backed up with a 5.92 in the final round.

The team thinks they have what it takes to set new WCHRA record’s and go rounds, hopefully making it to the winners circle at the end of a (long) night.
