Williams, Gervais, Orfanidis lead way in Quick 32 Sportsman Series and PBSS openers at Grand Bend

GRAND BEND, ON – The 2015 season is officially underway and the qualifying has been established for the first Top-Dragsterround in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series during the Grand Bend Motorplex Leaf Racewear Spring Blowout presented by Rocksedge & Veloce Italian Kitchen.

Qualifying number one in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Top Dragster class with a 6.193, 181.52 pass is Lyle Williams of Strathroy, Ontario, followed by Burlington’s Glen Vardy with a 6.200, 201.21 posting. Scott McCann of Stratford is third with a 7.017, 188.12.

Victoria Day Weekend tradition continues as the PBSS and Quick 32 Sportsman Series start their 2015 season

Drag race series get underway for season opener at the Grand Bend Motorplex May 15-17

GRAND BEND, ON – The Victoria Day Weekend tradition continues May 15-17 when the 2015 season gets underway Bear Performance Dodgefor the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

Both drag racing series will participate during the Leaf Racewear Spring Blowout presented by Rocksedge & Veloce Italian Kitchen over the May 15-17 Canadian holiday weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

Comprised of both Top Dragster and Top Sportsman entries, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series will kick off its seventh year of exciting competition. Running under indexing rules to give all racers an even chance of winning, cars in this series are powered by engines ranging from single carburetors to sophisticated supercharger and turbocharger set-ups, and speeds of well over 200 mph in the quarter-mile are easily obtained.

Scott McCann and the Fraser Asphalt Racing team returning to Quick 32 Sportsman Series

2015 drag racing season gets underway May 15 at Grand Bend

STRATFORD, ON – No major changes are planned for the Fraser Asphalt Racing Team this season in the Quick 32 Scott McCannSportsman Series.

We are just going to perform the usual maintenance on the car, noted team owner and driver Scott McCann. We have no major changes planned to the car, we do however plan to win some rounds.

Powered by a 437-cubic inch small block engine, the Top Dragster entry is a consistent qualifier with runs in the high-six-second range at speeds approaching 200 mph. The engine is fuelled with two 1050-cfm carburetors and tweaked with a Fulton nitrous system. A two-speed Hutch’s Transmission is coupled to the engine, which sits in a Fritz chassis.

New paint, new engine, new hopes for Bob Robinson’s Everitt Racing 1938 Chevy

Top Sportsman drag racing team makes major changes for Quick 32 Sportsman Series upcoming season

STRATFORD, ON – Bob Robinson may not be driving a new car in this year’s Quick 32 Sportsman Series, but just Bob Robinsonabout everything has been changed and updated to the 1938 Chevy Top Sportsman car, including the body.

We have changed a lot, said Robinson, who drives the Everitt Racing entry. Basically we have changed the whole car.

After debuting the car two years ago, the team has spent most of the off-season modifying the car, including a new 498-cubic inch all-aluminum Chevy engine with a Pro-Charger setup and alcohol injection. This combination has replaced the 632-cubic inch carburetor/nitrous system and Robinson said he is hoping for a quicker ride down the track.

Grubb Racing ready to return to Quick 32 Sportsman Series with renewed effort and performance

Top Sportsman Team will be ready for racing at opener May 15

PINE RIVER, ON – After a couple of non-competitive seasons, Grubb Racing plans to return to the Quick 32 Grubb RacingSportsman Series with a vengeance.

We had a couple of rough years, noted team owner Marvin Grubb, who heads up the team with his brother and driver Darrin Grubb. But we have things sorted out now and hopefully it works out better than the last couple of years.

Sitting under the hood of the 2011 Pontiac GXP Top Sportsman drag car is a 706-cubic inch Par Racing engine hooked to a Hutch’s Transmission Powerglide. The fuel system is a Rupert’s Racing Products item, and all the mechanicals ride on a Chris Duncan Race Cars product.

No major changes planned for Mike Everitt in upcoming drag race season

Everitt Racing Top Dragster team hoping for another good showing in Quick 32 Sportsman Series

STRATFORD, ON – Now entering his fourth season of Quick 32 Sportsman Series drag racing, Mike Everitt has Mike Everitttaken to racing his Top Dragster and is hoping to better his third-place points finish of 2014.

But the Stratford Ontario driver of the Everitt Racing Team said they plan on leaving the car fundamentally as last year.

We’re not doing a great deal with the car, he noted. Basically this year will be to get the nitrous sorted out and drive it.

The Top Dragster is a Spitzer Enterprises car with a 632-cubic inch for power complete with Dart Big Chief oval heads courtesy of Race Flow Development. Fuel is provided by nitrous-assisted carburetion, and a Hutch’s Transmission two-speed sits behind the engine. The car is capable of mid six-second passes on the quarter-mile at speeds of 200 mph. The team placed third in points in 2014, capped off with a series win during the Labor Day meet at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

Lyle Williams and Top Dragster entry ready for upcoming Quick 32 Sportsman Series drag racing season

Series to get underway May 15-17 at Grand Bend

STRATHROY, ON – Everything is ready to race for Lyle Williams and his Top Dragster entry in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series for 2015.

We really have not changed anything with the car, noted Williams, who raced in several events last season and plans to compete more this year. The car is ready to race.

Powered by a supercharged 526-cubic inch Veney Hemi, the Williams Racing dragster is capable of sub six-second runs at speeds of 230 mph.

Quick 32 Sportsman Series and PBSS announce 2015 schedule

New season prepares to get underway for established drag racing series

CAYUGA, ON – The Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series announced schedules today for their Quick 32upcoming 2015 drag racing seasons.

Comprised of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman cars running 7.95 seconds and quicker in the quarter-mile, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series will enter into its seventh year of competition, while the Pro Bikes and Pro Sleds of the PBSS, presented by Wiseco Performance Products, will start their fifth year.

Night of Champions honors drag racing teams in the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS

BURLINGTON, ON – The 10th annual Night of Champions was held at the Holiday Inn Burlington Hotel and Conference Center in Burlington, Ontario to honor the winners in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

Teams from all three drag race series were on hand to accept their awards for the final event of the 2014 season. The PMRA has now celebrated its 10th season of operation, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, its sixth season, and the PBSS, presented by Wiseco Performance Products, its fourth season.

The night included talks from several drag racing and media personalities, along with the naming of two new champions. On hand were several Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame Inducted members, including Bob Slack, Norris McDonald, editor of the Toronto Star Wheels, and Bruce Mehlenbacher, who is not only Director of Operations for all three series, but was inducted into the CMHF several years ago along with his family. John Waldie was also on hand and spoke to the audience about his involvement in the sport.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series Countdown to the 2014 Championship

CAYUGA, ON – The first-year entry of Jon Schmid dominated the 2014 Quick 32 Sportsman Series with the Top Sportsman driver winning the Jon SchmidChampionship Point Award Series in fine fashion.

This was the sixth year of competition in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

Driving his 2006 Pontiac GTO-bodied car, Schmid, from Orchard Park, New York, did not race in the season opener at Grand Bend, but took runner-up in the next event at US 131 Motorsports Park at Martin, Michigan.

He went rounds and not only won the Top Sportsman side, but took the event win over Top Dragster driver Buddy Forrest of Rochester, New York at the next event at Empire Dragway. Schmid drove to a semi-final finish for the next race, held at the Grand Bend Motorplex, and then for the season closer at Grand Bend, won the Top Sportsman side, losing the event final to Top Dragster driver Mike Everitt of Stratford, Ontario.
