Musi Racing Makes Strides at PDRA Carolina Showdown

HARTSVILLE, SC — With a quick turnaround on the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) schedule, Musi Racing enjoyed a step in the right direction last weekend at the PDRA Carolina Showdown.

Lizzy Musi and the team made major improvements from the PDRA opener two weeks prior in Pro Nitrous, winning a round in the Frank Brandao-owned Edelbrock/Lucas Oil “King Kong 7” 2018 Dodge Dart at Darlington Dragway.

That was a positive move as the team made strides, while Pat Musi Racing Engines customer Tommy Franklin also enjoyed another banner weekend, winning his second straight Pro Nitrous race in his Musi-powered “Jungle Rat” ’69 Camaro.

“We came out of this weekend feeling positive,” Pat Musi said. “We finally figured what was going on and we almost snuck up on it. As a team, we’re getting there and we made some progress. We’re coming around, we just have to continue to make some adjustments. Tommy is running really well and that team has it figured out right now. I’m happy to see a customer succeed and perform at that level. Everybody gets the same power from our shop and their car is running great.”

Musi Racing Looks to Rebound at PDRA Carolina Showdown

HARTSVILLE, SC — After struggling at the season-opening race, a quick turnaround might just be the perfect remedy for the Musi Racing Pro Nitrous team.

Just two weeks after the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) started its 2020 season at GALOT Motorsports Park, Lizzy Musi and Musi Racing will look to get on track at this weekend’s PDRA Carolina Showdown at Darlington Dragway.

It’s a short stretch between races, but it’s also an opportunity to rectify the first-round loss at the opener in the Frank Brandao-owned Edelbrock/Lucas Oil “King Kong 7” 2018 Dodge Dart.

The team struggled all weekend at GALOT, leading to plenty of hard work and changes heading into Darlington.

“I don’t like to narrow it down to one thing, but we’ve changed a lot heading into Darlington,” Pat Musi said. “We’ve put some things back to where they were when we ran fast, so I think we’ll be good. (GALOT) was a tough one, but everybody is upbeat and ready to go. We’ve got good info and data from Darlington, so I like our chances. I think we’ll be okay.”

With Musi Power, Tommy Franklin Rolls to Pro Nitrous Win at PDRA Opener

BENSON, NC — Through varying weather conditions and a loaded Pro Nitrous field, Pat Musi Racing Engines customer Tommy Franklin was consistently good in all areas, rolling to the victory on Sunday as the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) kicked off its 2020 season with the East Coast Nationals at GALOT Motorsports Park in Benson, NC.

From qualifying second in his “Jungle Rat” ’69 Camaro to putting together four straight runs in the 3.60s in eliminations, Franklin used Musi power to dominate race day. He ran 3.687-seconds at 205.51 mph in the final round to pick up the victory.

“It’s been a crazy year for everybody already. My team is awesome and they don’t stop working,” Franklin said. “We definitely had challenges, but from a race car standpoint, we have an awesome combination with that Pat Musi horsepower. The car was flawless all weekend and we just put it together and made some really solid runs.”

The start of the season was delayed two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Franklin and his team were locked in at GALOT. They had a strong test session at the track the Franklin family owns, Virginia Motorsports Park, and carried that momentum into the PDRA opener.

Following Lengthy Delay, Musi Racing Ready for PDRA Season Opener

BENSON, NC — After a season-opening victory way back in January, it’s been four months since Musi Racing last competed due to the COVID-19 pandemic

But the team is back for this weekend’s Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) season opener, the East Coast Nationals at GALOT Motorsports Park in Benson, NC, and Pat and Lizzy Musi are ready to pick up where they left off.

Lizzy Musi last piloted the Frank Brandao-owned Edelbrock/Lucas Oil “King Kong 7” 2018 Dodge Dart to the winner’s circle at the U.S. Street Nationals at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, FL, in January, and she’ll look to do the same to kick off the PDRA season — even if it has been a far longer wait than anyone expected.

“We’re excited to get rolling and we know we’ve got a good car,” Pat Musi said. “We had a fast car in Florida, and we learned a lot that hopefully we can keep going. We’ve got it set up to test some stuff, but if we can’t do that, we can put back in what we used in Florida. You saw the results there. We went fast and had a really good weekend.”

Noted Engine Builder Paul Hoskins Joining Pat Musi Racing Engines

MOORESVILLE, NC — Pat Musi Racing Engines announced the addition of experienced engine builder Paul Hoskins to its talented team.

Hoskins brings a wealth of drag racing and engine building knowledge to the company. He’s been part of four NHRA Pro Stock championship teams, including most recently with Tanner Gray and Gray Motorsports, where Hoskins served as the lead engine builder.

His expertise with naturally aspirated engines brings a valuable aspect to Pat Musi Racing Engines, and Hoskins is eager to tackle the challenges that await.

“I’m very excited to be doing something with Pat,” Hoskins said. “Pro Mod and Pro Nitrous have always been a passion of mine. I think there are a lot of things from the naturally aspirated cars that will apply to the Pro Mod world. It’s a steep learning curve, but it’s going to be interesting to work with the big engines and the Pro Nitrous cars.”

Before working at Gray Motorsports for six years, Hoskins spent more than five years working with Pro Stock veteran Mike Edwards. He was part of a championship-winning team there, too, while Hoskins was also part of championship teams for Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Jim Yates while spending 16 years with Dart Machinery.

Lizzy Musi Caps 2019 Season with Semifinal Appearance at PDRA World Finals, Top-Five Points Finish

DINWIDDIE, VA — Lizzy Musi and the Musi Racing team wrapped up a successful 2019 Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) season in Pro Nitrous with a semifinal finish at last weekend’s PDRA World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park.

It gave the star driver back-to-back semifinal appearances to close out the 2019 campaign in the Frank Brandao-owned Edelbrock/Lucas Oil “King Kong 7” 2018 Dodge Dart. Coupled with a final-round showing earlier this year, it marked another top-five points finish in the loaded Pro Nitrous class for Musi, putting a stamp on a solid PDRA season.

“You obviously would like to get a win to end the year, but all in all it was a pretty good weekend,” Pat Musi said. “The car ran well and Lizzy did a great job driving, it’s a tough class and the wins don’t come easy. We’ve had great support all year from Edelbrock and Lucas Oil, and I can’t say enough about those partnerships. To finish in the top five, we’re pleased with that and the car made a lot of great runs this year. It’s been a good year in the PDRA, and this sets us up nicely for next season.”

Lizzy Musi Aims to Close Out Record-Breaking Pro Nitrous Season with Win at PDRA World Finals

DINWIDDIE, VA — After a record-setting performance in Darlington earlier this month, Lizzy Musi and the Musi Racing team will look to end the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) season with a victory at this weekend’s PDRA World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park.

The finale to the 2019 PDRA season comes at a particularly busy – and successful – time for the Musi Racing team. After going 3.615-seconds at 208.62 mph to make the quickest pass in Pro Nitrous history at the PDRA Fall Nationals and advancing to the semifinals, Musi raced her Edelbrock-equipped “Aftershock” at the Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings event at Palm Beach International Racing last weekend, with Musi-powered star Kye Kelley picking up the event win.

That makes the PDRA World Finals the third straight race weekend for Musi Racing, but the team is locked in and ready to put together another strong outing in the Frank Brandao-owned Edelbrock/Lucas Oil “King Kong 7” 2018 Dodge Dart.
