Biesiada to Complete Car he Won at Blue Suede Cruise for Next Year’s Event

While Tom Biesiada had been taking part in the Blue Suede Cruise sponsored by AkzoNobel every summer at Summit Motorsports Park, this year’s sixteenth running of the event was decidedly different for the Hinckley, Ohio resident.

He won a 1932 Ford 3-window roller as a door prize on the final day of the event, which was held July 14-16, 2017, and the character-filled car made available by ScottRods Custom Hotrods and Fiberglass of Monroeville, Ohio is valued at $22,000.

“As I dropped my ticket into the box for the door prize, I told myself I felt lucky,” said Biesiada, who had been shining and showing his two-door seafoam green 1965 Pontiac Catalina at this year’s event. “Later, when I was sitting with my friends, I heard my name being called, and one of my friends said ‘You won the darn car,’ and I was completely flabbergasted.”

Campbells Show Car in Memory of Son at Blue Suede Cruise

While Don Campbell of Vermillon, Ohio, had begun the rebuild of a 1934 Chevy Master sedan with his son, Christopher Campbell, several years ago, Christopher died suddenly before they could finish it on June 25, 2007.

Understandably, the car was relegated to the back of the barn before finally being driven in as-in condition while Don and his wife, Viki, grieved, but one day in 2013, Viki urged her husband to finish it, as she was sure it’s what their son would have wanted.

With help from family friend Jeff VanWave, Don completely customized the car, painted it, built a small-block Chevy for it and made plans to show it in memory of their son at the Blue Suede Cruise sponsored by AkzoNobel this weekend, July 14-16 at Summit Motorsports Park.

Roadkill Zip-Tie Drags Rolls into Summit Motorsports Park

When the Roadkill Zip-Tie Drags sponsored by Dodge rolls into town June 30-July 1, 2017 at Summit Motorsports Park, the spotlight will be on classic cars and the speculation will be on whether or when they’ll break down.

Hilarity happens when David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan – hosts of “Roadkill,” an automotive Internet show produced by Motor Trend and Hot Rod magazine – and cast member Elana Scherr muse about what might break, what broke and how badly it broke.

Scherr talked with Summit Motorsports Park recently about “Roadkill,” which airs on Motor Trend’s YouTube channel and Motor Trend On Demand and is featured in the quarterly magazine “Roadkill,” about what to expect at the event. In addition to racing, it will feature camping, bonfires, a drive-in theater, swap meet, giveaways, Hooptie Challenge and more.

Hagan earns third pole of year with Mopar Dodge, gains on Capps; Pritchett’s Papa John’s tune-up warms up to qualify 4th at Norwalk

NORWALK, OH – It was a magnificent early summer Saturday in Northern Ohio that delighted a capacity crowd at Summit Motorsports Park.

After a rainy Friday, the following day was fan perfect with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s.

But that combination of weather was not very productive for low elapsed times let along track records that were produced the evening before.

Fortunately for Don Schumacher Racing’s Matt Hagan and the Mopar Express Lane Dodge Charger R/T Powered by Pennzoil tuned by Dickie Venables, no one was able to challenge the record time they set Friday with a run of 3.865 seconds at 333.33 mph that earned Hagan the third pole of the season and 29th of his career.

JEGS.com Pro Stock stalwart Jeg Coughlin Jr. looks to add a Norwalk victory to his list

NORWALK, OH – Five-time NHRA Pro Stock world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr., driver of the JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro, knows what it’s like to be successful. In drag racing circles his name can even be used to define success. But there a couple of racetracks where he has not made a visit to the national event winner’s circle, and one of those quarter-miles is up next on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule as the world’s fastest motorsports competes in his home state of Ohio.

Coughlin, a 46-year-old resident of Delaware, Ohio, lives only 90 miles away from Norwalk, site of this weekend’s race. Delaware also is world headquarters of the JEGS Performance empire, which includes a 250,000 square-foot warehouse, retail store, mail order shipping facility, and website founded by Coughlin’s father and drag racing legend Jeg Coughlin, Sr. It’s easy to see why winning in Norwalk is very high on Coughlin’s list of priorities.

Motz Returns to Summit Motorsports Park for Summit Racing NHRA Nationals

While blasting down track in his jet engine-powered Kenworth truck and burning down signs in the process, Bob Motz has fascinated fans and formed friendships at Summit Motorsports Park for years, and while it looked as though he had his final performance at America’s Racetrack last year, he’s making a return for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals this year.

In his highly-combustible capsule, he’ll lay flames and fly to 200-plus mph after the final pair of nitro-gulping cars cruise down track on Friday, June 23, and again after the final pair of nitro-gulping cars cruise down track on Saturday, June 24. His Friday performance will be followed by a colorful and cascading display of fireworks.

“I was thrilled to hear that Bob had these dates available, and I’m excited that he’s back racing and will be joining us for this event,” said Bill Bader, Jr., Summit Motorsports Park president. “It’s a very big deal for our fans, and it’s another ring in an already very big-ring circus.”
