NHRA INTRODUCES WI-FI FOR ALL AT AMALIE MOTOR OIL NHRA GATORNATIONALS

GAINESVILLE, FL — After a successful trial at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona this year, the NHRA Wi-Fi For All Zone will be featured at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., March 12-15. This is the next step in a long-term rollout plan to enhance the fan experience through reliable wireless internet service throughout the pits, midways and grandstands.

At Gainesville Raceway, NHRA has invested in fiber networking and partnered with PMY Group to provide over 750,000 square feet of wireless internet access during the Gatornationals. NHRA has also partnered with GoZone WiFi to learn more about the needs and wants of guests and fans at NHRA events.

“NHRA national events have a large footprint and some are in areas with limited cellular data service, making accessing the internet a challenge,” said Brad Gerber, vice president of sales and chief development officer for NHRA. “We knew it was high time to begin exploring how best to invest in the infrastructures necessary to provide consistent and convenient wireless internet to our fans, teams, sponsors and partners.”

TOP FUEL’S TERRY MCMILLEN EAGER TO BUILD ON CAREER-BEST PASS DURING NHRA GATORNATIONALS IN GRAND STYLE

GAINESVILLE, FL – It was important for Terry McMillen to start the 2020 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season on a good note. The Top Fuel veteran responded with his quickest career run at the most recent race, giving McMillen plenty of momentum heading into perhaps his favorite race of the year, the 51st annual AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, which takes place March 12-15 at Gainesville Raceway.

As the driver of the 11,000-horsepower AMALIE Motor Oil XTERMIGATOR dragster, racing at his sponsor’s race at one of the most iconic tracks on the circuit means a great deal to the popular McMillen. Knowing his dragster is capable of running well, McMillen hopes it leads to what would be one of the biggest wins of his career.

“For me, it’s great to see the smiles on all the faces of the AMALIE employees when we get to showcase everything,” McMillen said. “The fans there are certainly great and there’s just something about racing the Gator car at the Gatornationals in Gainesville. The people love it and I’ve met a lot of great folks. It’s been very cool and exciting to see it all come together.”

TOM BAILEY TO TAKE ON ROD TSCHIGGFRIE IN NHRA STREET CAR SHOWDOWN AT GATORNATIONALS

GAINESVILLE, FL — Tom Bailey and Rod Tschiggfrie, two of the best street car racers on the planet, will participate in the NHRA Street Car Showdown at the Gatornationals, a special grudge match held during the 51st annual Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals, March 12-15 in Gainesville, Fla. Bailey will take his “Beast Mode” ’69 Camaro up against Tschiggfrie’s radical Sorceress ’84 Hurst Olds Cutlass, driven by veteran chassis builder Don Speer. Both vehicles are licensed, registered, and legal for street use.

Bailey, of Lake Orion, Mich., made headlines last year during Hot Rod Magazine’s Drag Week, when he uncorked a 5.99 run on the final day of the event at Virginia Motorsports Park. Since then, he has since improved upon his career-best with a 5.77 elapsed time during pre-season testing at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. NHRA fans who attended last year’s U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway got a glimpse of Bailey’s Pro Mod-style Camaro when he made exhibition runs alongside fellow Drag Week competitors.

“We had such a good time doing the [exhibition race] last year at Indy, I’m happy that we were able to put something together with NHRA for Gainesville,” said Bailey. “This is the big show, and it’s cool to be able to match race against Rod’s car. I’ve never raced against Rod, but I’ve met him a couple of times and his car is impressive. His car is tuned by [fuel injection expert] Shane Techlenburg, who certainly knows what he’s doing.”

JOHNSON, TORRENCE AND ENDERS TAKE HOME WINS FROM THE DESERT IN FRONT OF A SOLD OUT CROWD AT NHRA ARIZONA NATIONALS

CHANDLER, AZ – Funny Car veteran, Tommy Johnson Jr. added a trophy to his collection at the 36th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in front of a sold out crowd on Sunday. Sunday’s win marks Johnson’s 18th career Funny Car win and his second in Phoenix.

Steve Torrence (Top Fuel) and Erica Enders (Pro Stock) also took home wins in their respective categories at the second of 24 events on the 2020 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.

In an all Don Schumacher Racing final, Johnson went 3.883-seconds at 326.40 mph to defeat teammate Jack Beckman during the final round at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in his MD Anderson Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. He defeated Paul Lee, Bob Tasca ll and Ron Capps to advance to the finals during Sunday’s event.

“We had a good car,” said Johnson, whose last Phoenix win came back in 2006. “The last qualifying run showed us that we have a solid car. Coming up here today, we had a lot of confidence. We went out first round and laid down a solid number. We weren’t low (elapsed time) but we were close. We came out second round and sat low ET so we knew we had a solid car. As a driver, going into each round knowing you have a car that’s going to perform makes your job a little easier. It gives you a little less stress. The guys did a great job. Even in Pomona we a had a good car, just dropped a cylinder second round and event had a little issue with that in qualifying here.”
