NHRA Summit National Championship

HOWARD DOUBLES, HOBBS WINS TEAM TITLE

ENNIS, TX – Jake Howard raced to the Double- Up taking home to top honors in both Pro ET and Sportsman while the team from Hobbs Motorsports Park captured the Team Championship at the NHRA Summit Racing Series South Central Division Finals at Texas Motorplex.

Howard, out of Ardmore Dragway, jumped out to a hundredth of a second lead in the Sportsman final and held on for the win over Adam Martinez with a lap of 7.598 on the 7.59 dial to Martinez’s 7.897 (7.89 dial) for his first of two final round victories. He would then match up with Donna Lummus, China, Texas, in the Pro ET final where he recorded a .008 second reaction time and a lap of 6.681 seconds at 106.60 mph for the win and the double after Lummus left early with a foul start.

Hobbs Motorsports Park gathered up 57 points to lead the team standings followed up Ardmore Dragway with 55 and Houston Raceway Park at 54. Houston Raceway Park won the Team Spirit Award.

SRCA TAKES TEAM TITLE, 5 HEADED TO NATIONALS

TOPEKA, KS – SRCA Dragstrip racked up 55 points to capture the Team Championship and five individual winners are heading to the NHRA Summit National Championship via wins this weekend at the NHRA West Central Division Summit Racing Series. SRCA drivers held off those from Brainerd International Raceway and Bandimere Speedway who finished in second and third with 50 and 41 points respectively.

Jaron Miller, Joe Marx, Brent Erickson and Beau Drexler each won their respective category and now advance to the National Championship in California where they will face off against the winners from NHRA’s six other divisions. Joining the four will be Tanner Asti who won Friday’s Race of Champions competition. In a special wild card drawing earlier this year, the West Central division was drawn to send their Sportsman ROC winner to the national championship and fill out the 8-car field.

Chris Livingood, Ottawa, Kan., was out first on Miller in the Super Pro Final but it was Miller, Chase, Kan., with the power to take the win and the trophy in his ’08 dragster.

TEXAS MOTORPLEX WELCOMES BACK NHRA’S SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION SUMMIT SERIES FINALS

ENNIS, TX – Texas Motorplex will host the 2018 NHRA South Central Division Summit Racing Series Finals, September 14-16. Top drivers from NHRA member tracks across the South Central division will compete in four classes for individual and team honors.

Individual champions in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle will advance to the NHRA Summit National Championship and will compete against the winners from NHRA’s other six divisions at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November.

Participants in the top classes will compete for cash awards of more than $20,000 who advance to Pomona will each receive an additional $3,000 with a $5,000 winner take all purse going to the National Champion. Competitors in the High School class and Jr. Street will earn trophies.

HEARTLAND MOTORSPORTS PARK HOST NHRA SUMMIT RACING SERIES WEST CENTRAL FINALS

TOPEKA, KS – NHRA’s top drag racers from tracks across the West Central division will be at Heartland Motorsports Park to square off in head-to-head competition at the NHRA Summit Racing Series West Central Division Finals, September 14-16. Top points earning drivers in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Bike/Sled and High School will be on hand to compete for team and individual honors.

Friday’s action will feature the Race of Champions where top point earners from each track will face off in a best of the best battle in the five respective classes. Event eliminations kick off on Saturday with nearly 500 racers competing for top honors and a chance to compete for the Summit Racing Series National Championship at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in November. They’ll run against the winners from NHRA’s other six divisions for a total purse of more than $100,000.

NHRA NORTH CENTRAL DIVISION SUMMIT RACING SERIES HEADS TO LUCAS OIL RACEWAY

INDIANAPOLIS – Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis will be hosting the 43rd Annual NHRA Summit Racing Series North Central Division Finals, September 14-16. The event will feature teams of the series’ best racers representing NHRA member tracks from across the region. Top points earning drivers in five classes will be on hand to compete for team and individual honors. Nearly 700 drivers are expected to compete in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Super Pro Bike, and High School categories. Racers in the High School class will run for trophies while the others will compete for cash awards of more than $60,000.

Gates at Lucas Oil Raceway will open at 8 a.m. each day. Time trials will start Friday morning at 9 and continue Saturday at 8 a.m. Eliminations will start Saturday at 1 p.m. and continue Sunday at 8 a.m.

SUMMIT SERIES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP DRAWING HELD IN NORWALK

NORWALK, OH – In a special drawing for the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship, four NHRA divisions were selected to send an extra racer to compete for the national championship at the season ending Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock drivers Greg Anderson and Jason Line joined Summit’s Jim Greenleaf and Don Lower along with NHRA Division Director Jeff Conley for the prerace ceremonies drawing at today’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park.

The Pacific Division 7 was drawn for Super Pro, Northeast Division 1 for Pro, the West Central Division 5 for Sportsman, and the North Central Division 3 for Motorcycle. Each will bring the eighth driver that will complete the 8-car field. For Divisions 1, 3 and 5 their Summit Division Finals Race of Champions winner will fill the eighth spot while Division 7 will bring their event champion for the final spot.

NHRA SUMMIT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP DRAWING TO BE HELD IN NORWALK

GLENDORA, CA – Summit Racing Equipment and the National Hot Rod Association will hold a special drawing at the upcoming Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park. The drawing will determine which NHRA division will send the eighth driver in each of the four Summit Racing Series classes (Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, and Motorcycle) to complete the pool of racers vying for the 2018 NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship.

The first seven representatives in each class are made up of the NHRA Summit Racing Series Division Finals champions in each of the NHRA divisions 1 through 5, divisions 6 and 7 send their Race of Champions winner to the national championship competition.

To complete the 8-car field, if any of the NHRA Divisions 1-5 are drawn, that division’s Race of Champions winner will advance to the national championship as the eighth man. If Divisions 6 or 7 are drawn, the division finals event champion will advance to complete the field.

Participants in the top classes will compete for cash awards of more than $20,000.  Drivers who advance to Pomona will each receive an additional $3,000 and the champions in each class will earn $5,000.  Competitors in the High School class will earn trophies.
