CAPP CROWNED MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT CHAMPION

ENNIS, TX – Jim Rod Capp drove his Super Gas ’10 Corvette to the win in the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout this weekend during the South Central Division double-header event at Texas Motorplex.

A Houston-based driver, Capp qualified for the Moser Sportsman Shootout in Super Gas out of the year-long points battle during the 2018 NHRA racing season, and would face off with 15 other drivers from seven different NHRA classes in the eighth-mile race-within-a-race competition.

STACKED FIELD TO BATTLE FOR MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT

Ennis, TX – The NHRA South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout is set to take place on Saturday, April 6 with a stacked field. The specialty event is contested in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series doubleheader weekend at Texas Motorplex.

Slate Cummings, Austin Williams, Henry Kindle, and Koy Collier will all be returning from last year to race once again for a chance at the title.

Through a season long point’s battle in 2018, the top two Moser Sportsman Shootout point’s earners in each of the seven classes in competition are slotted into the 16-car field while Max McGlothin and Rick Legaux will complete the ladder as the Moser Shootout Wild Card entries.

The Moser Sportsman Shootout is unique in that racers from seven entirely different class structures Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will be racing each other. Eliminations will be in a dial-in/breakout handicap format on an eighth-mile.

ANDERSON DOMINATES NHRA MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT

ROCKINGHAM, NC – Jonathan Anderson qualified for the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout in two classes and advanced to the final round in both taking the honors as both Champion and runner up in the specialty event at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Rockingham Dragway.

In a year long points battle, Anderson, Williamson, Ga., qualified both his ‘05 Pontiac Super Street and his ’09 dragster in Super Comp. He then took out Matt Weston (Super Street) and Michelle Furr (Super Gas) in round one. Also qualifying in two classes was Red Boy, Ala., racer Jeff Strickland who beat Kenneth Stott in round one with his stock entry but fell to Lindsey Barker in Top Dragster.

Anderson advanced both cars in round two then took out Jeff Longhany, who had beat Strickland in round 2, and Sandy Wilkins in the semifinals to set up a final round match up with himself. Anderson and his team staged both cars for the final round photo then celebrated in winner’s circle with both cars and the Moser Sportsman Shootout Championship trophy.

NHRA MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT KICKS OFF LUCAS SERIES IN ROCKINGHAM

GLENDORA, CA – The NHRA Southeast Division Moser Sportsman Shootout will take to the track at Rockingham Dragway this Friday, October 19, on opening day of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.

Through a season long point’s battle in 2018, the top two Moser Sportsman Shootout point’s earners in each of the seven classes in competition were slotted into the 16-car field while Tim Powell and Casey Spradlin will complete the ladder as the Moser Shootout Wild Card entries.

Three drivers are pulling double duty as they have qualified in two classes. Rusty Cook in Super Comp and Super Gas, Jonathan Anderson who will face off with Cook in round one of Super Comp and is also on the ladder in Super Street, and then Jeff Strickland who is entered in Stock and Top Dragster. Cousins Dylan Stott and Kenneth Stott both qualified with Dylan in Top Sportsman and Kenneth in Stock.

DUDLEY TAKES MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT

BOWLING GREEN, KY – In the final round of the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout at Beech Bend Raceway Park and the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series it was Ed Dudley hoisting the trophy with a final round win over Chris Stephenson.

Dudley, Plainfield, Ind., cruised down the quarter mile in a ceremonial victory lap after Stephenson, Tipton, Ind., left early with a foul start in his ’68 Stock entry. Dudley was on his game throughout eliminations in his Top Dragster recording victory runs of 4.195, 4.197 and 4.208 seconds in taking out Jim Prevo in round one, then Dinkel Kynon and former Moser Shootout Champion Jacob Elrod in his semifinal match up.

Troy Galbraith, Indianapolis, joined the celebration winning the Comp Eliminator Shootout over Brian Browell posting a 6.696, 194.978 mph lap to Browell’s 7.243, 183.32

Going into Sunday’s final eliminations, Troy Coughlin and Ray Drew lead the Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car Fields with Coughlin posting a 5.299 second, 272.50 mph qualifying lap and Drew sits No. 1 with a 5.651, 259.76.

NHRA MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT SET FOR BEECH BEND

BOWLING GREEN, KY – The NHRA North Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout is set to take place on Saturday, August 25, in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Beech Bend Raceway Park, Bowling Green, Ky.

Jacob Elrod returns this year and has again qualified in two categories, Super Gas and Super Comp.  He is joined by division points leaders Lester Johnson (Top Sportsman), Devin Isenhower (Super Gas) and Dalton Deffenbaugh (Super Street) who lead the field in search of the Moser Sportsman Shootout Championship

Through a yearlong point’s battle, the top two Moser Sportsman Shootout point’s earners in each of the seven classes in competition were slotted into the 16-car field while Ed Jirousek and Leo Zynda will complete the ladder as the Moser Shootout Wild Card entries.

COLLIER CROWNED MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT CHAMPION

ENNIS, TX – Jackson Collier drove his ’69 Camaro to the win in the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout this weekend during the South Central Division double-header event at Texas Motorplex.

Collier, Benton, La., qualified in Super Gas out of the year-long points battle during the 2017 NHRA racing season, and would face off with 15 other drivers from seven different NHRA classes in the eighth-mile competition.

It was a family affair in round one as Collier faced off with his nephew Koy taking the win with a holeshot and a near perfect 7.004 on the 7.01 dial-in, in a double breakout. He then ended reigning NHRA Lucas Oil World Champion Austin William’s day in round two in another close one as Collier took the early lead and held on to advance.

Ennis, TX – The NHRA South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout is set to take place on Saturday, April 14 with a stacked field. The specialty event is contested in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series doubleheader weekend at Texas Motorplex.

Slate Cummings out of Hammond, La., captured the 2017 Moser Sportsman Shootout with a win over Christopher Dodd, and will look to defend his title as he has again qualified for the 2018 competition. To do so, Cummings will need to get past former Lucas Oil World Champion Austin Williams, Division Champions Jackson Collier, Val Harmon and Bob Gulitti and former Moser Shootout Champion Ray Dew who once again qualified for the elusive field.

Through a season long point’s battle in 2017, the top two Moser Sportsman Shootout point’s earners in each of the seven classes in competition are slotted into the 16-car field while Chase Huffman and Shawn Carter will complete the ladder as the Moser Shootout Wild Card entries.
