Janis Hoping for Strong Finish to 2010 Season

Elma, NY– Mike Janis and his Elma, NY based team have learned a lot in their first full season of NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge competition. One of their biggest lessons learned was about their competition.

“This year has been different for us. We’ve had some good runs, qualifying number one and made it to the finals, but consistency has been a problem and when your racing against the guys we do, you need to be able to make back to back runs,” said team owner/driver Mike Janis. “The competition out here is getting close to what you see in Pro Stock; cars are so close in performance that you need to really find every advantage in order to run with this group,” added Janis.

Janis, who has a reputation for building horsepower at his shop, Jan-Cen Motorsports, found that no matter how much power you have, if you can’t get it to the track it’s useless.

“Our business is to make power and every off season we run through a very extensive R&D program looking for that extra horse power. This past off season we knew the GSA series would be tight so, we worked long and hard to make as much power as we could; and we succeeded. The problem is that we don’t get much on track testing prior to the season so our complete set up has been a work in progress all season long. By no means do we have everything perfected heading into Vegas but it’s the best we’ve had all year and I think we can finish the year strong,” said Janis.

Elma, NY– Mike Janis took his 2010 Ford Mustang to a semi-final finish at the O’Reilly Auto NHRA Nationals at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, NC this past weekend.

Janis’ run to the winner’s circle was halted by a faulty pneumatic valve; causing incorrect timing early in his semi-final run.

“We’ve had a problem this year with little things getting us,” said Crew Chief, Mike Janis Jr. “We’re confident we have the power to run with anyone here. OK, the turbo car is in a class of his own right now but, if we can string a few runs together I like our chance against anyone.”

Janis started eliminations from the number six position after running a best of 5.95 at just under 244 miles per hour in qualifying. In round one Janis took on Californian Danny Rowe at the wheel of his Sterling Bridge ’68 Camaro. The race was over at the tree when Rowe fouled out turning on the red light. The win over Rowe set up a second round pairing of Janis versus Burgess. Roger Burgess, a self made millionaire from Duluth, Georgia, made his way to the second round by defeating his teammate Ray Commisso in round one.

Norwalk, OH – Summit Motorsports Park is quickly becoming a second home to Todd Robertson and his Pro Power Motorsports team. Robertson, of Harrison Twp, Michigan, has qualified number one three times this season and  has won two of four events during the track’s Friday Night Chaos Series DOOR WARS, including a number one and a win from this past weekend’s event.

This past race was very special to Todd and his Pro Power team, not only because of their performance, but for the performance of Tony Raffin. Raffin, of St. Clair Shores Michigan, campaigns a nitrous assisted 70’ Cuda prepared by Pro Power Motorsports.

“Tony’s not a team car of ours, he’s more of a “house car”, said Pro Power Motorsports’ Todd Robertson. “Raffin’s “day job” as proprietor of three Re/Max realty outlets keeps him very busy. So, we take care of his car for him. We took care of the plumbing on the car and keep her race ready for Tony on a weekly basis. So any success Tony has gives me a “Proud Papa” moment”, laughed Robertson.
