Three-event schedule debuts in March at the Spring Break Shootout
STOW, OH – Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels has signed on as title sponsor of the NMRA’s newest small-tire drag racing category. The Mickey Thompson Street Car Challenge class is a three-event, non-championship category aimed at attracting small-tire/DOT-equipped tire Ford-brand vehicles that don’t fit into the regular lineup for NMRA Heads-Up, Index or QA1 True Street categories.
“Mickey Thompson is a leader in the DOT/drag radial tire market, so it is a natural fit for us to back a street car-type class. We look forward to seeing all sorts of Mustangs and Fords get involved at these NMRA events and have some fun,” said Tom Kundrik, Motorsports Manager, Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels.
The new Mickey Thompson Street Car Challenge category is designed to replace NMRA Turbo Battle and Terminator/Cobra vs. GT500 Shootout races that have run at select events over the last several years. It consolidates those two categories into one group and is also open to many other Ford vehicles and combinations at any level.
Has supported the small tire drag racing event since 2009
STOW, OH – Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels is back again as title sponsor of Lights Out 12, “The Baddest Small Tire Races in the World.”
A leader the small tire drag racing category with its ET Street Radial Pro line, Mickey Thompson has supported the annual Duck X Productions event since 2009. This year’s races are set for Feb. 25-28 at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, Georgia.
“Small tires equal big fun every year at Lights Out,” said Tom Kundrik, Motorsports Manager, Mickey Thompson. “We know that fans and racers are itching to get back out to the track, and this early-season showdown is a great showcase for our ET Street Radial Pro line.”
In years past, Lights Out has hosted an estimated 400 competitors in up to 10 racing classes, each with purses reaching as high as $10,000, as well as an exclusive Radial vs. The World class that offers a $20,000 prize to the winner.
“Stevie Fast” Jackson recorded his 10th straight round win at South Georgia Motorsports Park with a final-round triumph over David Reese for the Radial vs. The World title last year at Lights Out 11.
Fast-paced Street Outlaws will compete at all six national NMCA events
The Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels Street Outlaw category will be contested at all six NMCA national events this year. The fast-paced 275 Radial class joins five other heads-up eliminators to create one of the most diverse championship lineups in drag racing.
“We’re thrilled that the Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels Street Outlaw category has gained full-time status on this year’s NMCA schedule,” said Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing, Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels. “Several big-name racers requested the 275 Radial category be expanded for 2021, and Mickey Thompson was happy to step up and help make it happen.”
The category offers compelling competition with supercharged, turbocharged and nitrous-enhanced entries that run far into the 4-second zone on sets of 275/60R15 radial tires. The Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels Street Outlaw class mimics the popular X275 Radial eliminator.
STOW, OH – Randal Andras dominated this year’s Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley Drag Racing Series, clinching his first
championship by winning five of the six Top Fuel Harley events held during the abbreviated 2020 NHRA drag racing season.
Andras and his Teche Towing/Time Energy/Rock Holdings nitro-burning Harley led the points standings since his victory at the season opener in Pomona. The only rider to beat Andras in competition all season was his teammate and team owner, Jay Turner.
Turner, the inaugural Harley series champ in 2017, defeated Andras in the semifinals of the NHRA Arizona Nationals in February, when Andras lost traction off the line. Andras joined Jay Turner Racing in 2008.
“It was time for me to grab the torch and keep running, or just burn it down,” said Andras after years of fighting for a championship. “We just kept the faith and started seeing some progress. After we won (the U.S. Nationals) last year, the ball was in our court and we kept it there.”

NHRA racers are ready to roll this weekend in Indy
STOW, OH – The Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley Series is back in action this weekend at the Lucas Oil NHRA Summernationals in Indianapolis, resuming a season that was paused after the first two events.
The series features bikes capable of exceeding 220 mph, making it the fastest motorcycle racing action on the NHRA circuit. Races are often decided by just thousandths of a second.
“It’s great to see the Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels Top Fuel Harley Series roaring back,” said Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing, Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels. “The series got off to great start at the beginning of the season, and we can’t wait to watch these racers pick up right where they left off.”
The 2020 season marks the fourth year Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels has served as the title sponsor of the Top Fuel Harley series.
Mickey Thompson-sponsored special event will be held at the Denso Spark Plug U.S. Nationals in September
STOW, OH – Always one of the standout special events of the NHRA season, the Mickey Thompson Tires Pro Bike Battle will return on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis at the Denso Spark Plugs U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.
The special event, which annually pits eight of the top NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle riders in head-to-head shootout for a $25,000 winner payout, was originally scheduled to take place at its traditional site at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals in July, but was moved after that event was cancelled due to COVID-19 and other factors.
“It’s great to get back to racing, and moving the Pro Bike Battle to Indy is a terrific way to showcase our tires in the home of motorsports,” said Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing for Mickey Thompson. “The excitement of the Pro Bike Battle is Pro Stock Motorcycle racing at its best, which is why Mickey Thompson has been proud to sponsor the event for four years now.”
