Race Wrap–Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series, Round 2

Santa Ana CA – Mother Nature was all talk and no action as rain threatened the second round of the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series held during the 17th Annual Quick Fuel Technologies NMCA Bluegrass Nationals presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center at Bowling Green, Kentucky’s Beech Bend Raceway Park. Fortunately, the event went off with only minimal delays and there was some great heads-up LS-powered, drag-racing action.

Jessie Coulter was the number-one qualifier in the special 275 radial-tire eliminator Brian Tooley Racing Real Street Shootout with his 4.791 at 148.94mph number. The 2017 Real Street champion and driver of the infamous turbocharged ’91 Camaro then went on to win the class outright on Saturday when he took down Ernie Dampier and earned an additional $1,000 prize, along with a new LSX Bowtie block from Chevrolet Performance.

Last year’s Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Chevrolet Performance Stock class winner Jesse Wilson maintained the momentum as he and his ’14 Camaro lead the qualifying order on a 10.160 at 130.32mph trip. Wilson made it two in a row as he defeated Haley Rounsavall during the last eliminations pair of the weekend; Wilson went 10.205 at 130.23 mph to Rounsavall’s 10.285 at 128.73 mph and late reaction.
