JOHN FORCE RUNNER-UP AT US NATIONALS; No. 1 HEADED INTO COUNTDOWN
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – John Force drove his Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang to his eighth final round appearance at the prestigious and iconic 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals and sixth in a row this season. Despite being on top of his game all weekend and claiming his second Traxxas Shootout victory on Sunday, the 16-time NHRA Mello Yello Champion couldn’t double up today during the final eliminations at the historic “Big Go.”
The reigning NHRA Funny Car champion faced some tough competitors on his way to a final round match-up with Alexis DeJoria. In that epic final match-up, both Funny Cars and their teams were on their game. As the Christmas tree flashed green, both cars took off with DeJoria getting a slight starting line advantage. John’s Mustang was in hot pursuit and making up ground as his 8000 horsepower BOSS 500 engine was working overtime.

This was John’s second Traxxas Nitro Shootout victory as he won the inaugural event in 2012. This was also John’s eighth victory in an NHRA all-star bonus event and earned $100,000 for the win today.
“I want to thank the fans for sticking this out, it was a killer crowd last night and today and we need these crowds as they stayed with us all did with on again and off again rain. I also want to thank the driver and the teams in our sport and also NHRA, Mello Yello and Mike Jenkins from Traxxas for putting up the money. They do such a fantastic job putting on these events. We’ve been working hard all week and putting in long hours but that what it takes. My granddaughter Autumn wanted her daddy (Robert Hight) to win but I promised her if I won, her grandpa would give her the trophy. It was a win-win situation for us going into the Traxxas final, we couldn’t lose,” said John Force.

JFR FUNNY CAR DRIVERS READY TO TAKE ON TRAXXAS SHOOTOUT
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – On the eve of the 3rd annual Funny Car Traxxas Nitro Shootout three John Force Racing Funny Car drivers having differing views but similar goals on attacking the $100,000 to win specialty race. There was much discussion today at the Shootout press conference about “doubling-up” and for the all the competitors they know that is a tough proposition. Of the 20 different drivers who have “doubled-up,” winning pro bonus races and national events on the same weekend, only four have done so more than once: John Force in Funny Car, Bob Glidden and Greg Anderson in Pro Stock and Matt Hines in Pro Stock Motorcycle.
John Force is bidding for his seventh bonus race victory and his second in three years in the Traxxas Nitro Shootout. The driver of the Castrol GTX HIGH MILEAGE Ford Mustang won the Big Bud Shootout in 1987, 1990, 1993, 1996 and 2000. He won the Skoal Showdown in 2006 and the Traxxas Shootout in 2012. Force has won NHRA bonus races in four different decades, the only driver to have done so. His most recent win came in the 2012 Traxxas Nitro Shootout in Dallas and his first specialty race win came in the Big Bud Shootout in 1987.
TOUGH FRIDAY HAS JFR READY FOR DAY TWO OF US NATIONALS
INDIANAPOLIS – The 60th annual Chevrolet Performance NHRA U.S. Nationals got off to a slow start for John Force Racing. Luckily there are still four more qualifying sessions for the winningest team in NHRA history. Today the best effort came from John Force and the Castrol GTX High Mileage Ford Mustang Funny Car who covered the 1000 foot track in 4.865 seconds at 168.94 mph.
Under hot and humid conditions, the Funny Cars finally got their opening shot down the iconic Indianapolis Raceway Park as over 8000 horsepower echoed through the pits and surrounding communities. For the reigning Funny Car champ that has four Indy wins under his belt, he has the potential to win not the NHRA U.S. Nationals this long weekend, but also the Traxxas Shootout and the Lucas Oil Nationals that had to be postponed two weeks ago in Brainerd due to rain.

“This is just awesome. I am so excited. This will be our second year in the Traxxas Shootout and I have to thank my fans and the support I got from my sponsors like Castrol, Ford, Auto Club, Mac Tools, and BrandSource,” said Fore.
Team Force Ready for the ‘Big Go’
FORCE READY TO RACE FOR FIFTH NHRA U.S. NATIONALS VICTORY
Ask John Force which drag race he holds near and dear to his heart and he’ll quickly reply “Indy”. The 16-time NHRA Mello Yello Champion has visited the winner’s circle at Indianapolis Raceway Park four times in his illustrious career in 1993, 1996, 1998 and 2002 and is ready to drive his 8,000 horsepower Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang to another victory at this year’s Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals.
“Certain things motivate me, like the history here and all my heroes that raced at the U.S. Nationals, like the Snake (Don Prudhomme) and the Mongoose (Tom McEwen). My sponsors like Castrol, Ford, Mac Tools, Traxxas, Auto Club and Peak also motivate me. Everyone wants to win Indy and it will be an exciting race, as we have the Traxxas Shootout going on,” said John Force.
J. FORCE TO FIFTH FINAL IN A ROW; WILL SETTLE RACE IN INDY
BRAINERD, MN – John Force and his Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang will have to wait two weeks to see if he will claim his fourth win of the season and his 142nd career victory. With persistent rain showers and darkening skies over Brainerd International Raceway, the final Funny Car round for the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals was postponed this evening and has been rescheduled for the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals. The Funny Car final will be run during Q3 on Saturday in Indianapolis.
“The fans really hung with us today which made it special. I have won this race 11 times and we are going to have to run it off in Indy. I’ll be racing a great friend of mine Ron Capps. We were both excited. DeJoria did a great job running that 3.99. She and DeLago have a great thing going. My car ran in the threes but I keep cheating that light and trying to make sure I get those wins. I am excited and I want to thank all the people that spent time with me this weekend,” said Force, the 11-time Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals winner.
No. 1 IN BRAINERD JOHN FORCE CONTINUES QUALIFYING DOMINATION
BRAINERD, MN – On the final qualifying run today at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals, John Force and his Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang stampeded to the head of the pack with a stunning 4.060 second run at 315.27 mph after an afternoon rain shower cooled off Brainerd International Raceway. This is John Force’s fifth No. 1 qualifying position of the season and 151st of his career in Funny Car. John has also won this event 11 times before and will face Bob Bode in the opening round during Sunday’s eliminations.
“Well, it cooled down, and we knew everybody was going to step up. That extra 30 minutes gave everybody some extra time – and then of course, they went to work on the track. And then (Alexis) DeJoria stepped up there and just killed everybody, and we knew it was there. At the other end, I joked with Cruz (Pedregon) – I said, I really thought Robert Hight would step up, in the Auto Club Ford, and if he doesn’t get me, which we raced, and I made it, I said Cruz will do it, ‘cause he’ll throw the kitchen sink at it – that’s the way he races. And he had trouble at the top end, Cruz did. And I will say this, and I’ve never done this before, it ain’t in my personality, and I don’t know why I did, but I said to the TV camera, I’m going to be number one. It don’t mean you won’t get your tail end whipped tomorrow,” said John Force.
