Huge Car Counts Highlight IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering

WEST SALEM, OH — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering returned to Draway 42 Saturday and Sunday with Zack Hawthorn and Jordan Freshour taking home the top honors in the Top and Mod class.

Huge fields of 500-plus cars Saturday and 450-plus cars Sunday provided tough competition for competitors throughout the weekend.

In the Junior Dragster beginner class finals Saturday, Brayden Baher from Amherst, Ohio defeated Parker Novak from Monroe, Mich. Baehr had a final run of 11.850 seconds at 54.84 mph against a 11.90 dial-in. Novak had a 11.884 second run at 54.45 mph against a 12.09 dial-in.

In the Junior dragster advanced class finals on Saturday, Peyton Novak from Monroe, Mich., defeated Roman Iocoangeli from Monroe, Mich.  Novak had a winning pass at 9.004 seconds at 72.48 mph against an 8.94 dial-in. Iocoangeli had a quicker but losing final of 8.935 second at 72.16 mph against an 8.90 dial-in.

Brainerd Motorsports Park, IHRA Sign Multi-Year Agreement

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Brainerd Motorsports Park kicks off its 2020 racing season with the announcement it has signed a multi-year sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA).

Conveniently located off Interstate 75, just 10 miles from Chattanooga, Tenn., and less than two hours from Atlanta, the 1/8-mile drag strip is a destination for many racers from Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama.

Track owners Ron Newman and the husband-wife team of Amy and Steve Farrow have a full schedule of events planned from March through the end of November.

“Brainerd Motorsports Park is a great facility in a terrific location,” IHRA Division Director Frank Kohutek said. “Amy and Steve Farrow and Ron Newman have done a tremendous job providing the racers in that area with a first-class facility and a great racing surface. Brainerd Motorsports Park is a great representative of an IHRA-member track.”

US 13 Dragway Renews Commitment to IHRA

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — US 13 Dragway has long been a supporter of grassroots drag racing and it continues to show that through a new sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA).

The Delmar, Delaware facility features a 1/4-mile drag strip, which was first opened in 1963. Longtime track owner Charlie Cathell was an early proponent of bracket racing and his track boasts a strong IHRA Summit SuperSeries program.

For 2019, IHRA Summit SuperSeries champions included: Alex Bradford (Top), Keven Yates (Mod) and Nicholas Bowie (Junior).

The track is usually jam packed with events on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the season. New for 2020 is the IHRA and SBRA Ultimate Points Series which allows racers once a month to compete for bigger purses during a 2-Day event.

In addition, there are multiple events for Grudge and N/T Shootout racers.

Onawa Dragway, IHRA Reach Multi-Year Agreement

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and Onawa Dragway have entered into a multi-year sanctioning agreement.

Onawa Dragway, Onawa, Iowa is just 10 miles from the Nebraska border, right across the Missouri River. It is a newer facility opened in August 2018 to a sold-out crowd and a car count of over 150. Located on the site of a former airport, it boasts a state-of a 1/8-mile drag strip.

The Western Iowa facility participated in the IHRA Midwest Summit Team Finals and has embraced the IHRA Summit SuperSeries. Chuck Collins (Top), Jack Underwood (Mod) and Taylor Hansen (Junior) were IHRA Summit SuperSeries track champions in 2019.

The track also hosts the Midwest Index Series.

Xtreme Raceway Park Signs Multi-Year Agreement with IHRA

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is pleased to announce that Xtreme Raceway Park, Ferris, Texas has entered into a multi-year sanctioning agreement.

Truly one of the nicest facilities in the country, track owners Clyde and Amanda Scott, along with track operators Gaylen and Celeste Smith designed the facility that opened in 2018 to be racer-friendly.

Their hard work has paid off and the track, conveniently located off Interstate 45 in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, was named the IHRA Division 4 (Renegades) Track of the Year in 2019.

One innovation was the construction of “Bull Pens”, built on raised platforms behind the starting line. They are under a 40’ x 40’ covered pavilion with picnic tables and commercial fans to provide a unique perspective and to add protection from the blistering Texas heat.

IHRA Releases 2020 Sportsman Spectacular Schedule

WEST PALM BEACH, FL —  The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA), the premier grassroots drag racing series in North America, released the 2020 IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering schedule which will feature an exciting 18-race schedule over nine double-race weekends.

Top (Box), Mod (No Box / Footbrake) and Junior Dragsters will have the opportunity to compete for the prestigious IHRA Ironman at each event as well as the coveted oversized championship checks.  Class runners-up will receive the limited-edition Sportsman Spectacular silver medals in addition to their winnings.

The weekend program includes a test & tune and golf cart race. First, second and third-round prizes will also be featured during the weekend.

Multiple Tracks Renew IHRA Sanctioning Agreements

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and three premier drag racing facilities — Dragway 42, Maryland International Raceway and Palm Beach International Raceway — have renewed sanctioning agreements.

Dragway 42, located in West Salem, Ohio, first opened in 1957. The facility underwent a complete ground-up restoration and reopening in 2017. Highlighted by the 1/4-mile drag strip, the multi-purpose facility hosts drag racing, autocross, truck and tractor pulls, as well as concerts and music festivals.

Part of the renovation included Musco Lighting throughout the grounds and bleacher seats that were used at Daytona International Speedway. Dragway 42 routinely attracts racers from neighboring states like West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Kentucky as well as Canada.

It has a strong IHRA Summit SuperSeries program and has hosted the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular the past two seasons.
