Written by Ian Tocher

MUSTANG, OK — Lethal Threat Racing, fielding the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Pro Extreme entries of Todd Martin and Brandon Pesz, is pleased to announce major backing from Kryptonite Kustomz for the rest of the 2012 ADRL racing season.

“This is amazing; it is so difficult to find a marketing partner at any time, but to join forces with Chris Davis and Kryptonite Kustomz this late in the season I think really showcases the value of our team,” said team owner Martin, who drives a supercharged ’68 Mustang on the 10-race ADRL trail.

Based in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Kryptonite Kustomz specializes in the complete process of concept, design, printing and installation of custom vehicle graphics and wraps.

“Kryptonite Kustomz is so excited to be a part of Lethal Threat Racing and the ADRL experience,” Davis said. “We are coming to the ADRL race in Memphis (Sep. 7-8), and have never before attended a race of this magnitude. We look forward to answering any and all questions about vinyl wraps or design.”

Davis Determined to Deliver Again in Memphis

Written by Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — It’s been a month since Ronnie Davis won his first ADRL Top Sportsman race, but the five-time IHRA Top Sportsman world champion and two-time NHRA Division 2 champ is still pumped up over his Dragstock IX victory at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte.

“I had my good luck charms with me at zMAX—my girlfriend Micki Dearing and world-famous dog Honeybear—we even had Honeybear in the winner’s circle with us,” Davis said. “We all had a lot of fun that day, but that really was a big win because it put me right back into contention for the ADRL championship.”

Davis heads into this weekend’s (Sep. 7-8), ADRL Memphis Drags III at Memphis International Raceway in fourth place—but less than four rounds behind the current points leader.

“I feel like we’re within striking distance now and anyone who knows me will tell you, as long as I have a mathematical chance at winning I’m going to give it everything I’ve got to try and make that happen,” the Suwanee, Georgia-based golf cart dealer said.

“I use a two-man crew, always have, myself and Pete March, but I prefer to do 90 percent of the work myself—that way if it goes well, it’s all good; and if it goes bad, I have no one to blame but myself.”

Davis Plans ADRL Turnaround for Dragstock

Written by Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — Don’t count Top Sportsman veteran Ronnie Davis out yet. The five-time IHRA Top Sportsman world champion and two-time NHRA Division 2 champ may have struggled somewhat through the first half of the ADRL schedule and hasn’t made an NHRA Division 2 appearance since March, but “The King,” as many know him, has regained his trademark confidence and swagger.

“I won’t ever quit something I started,” he declares. “That just won’t happen.”

The Suwanee, Georgia-based golf cart dealer is hoping to build on some recent success, too, and turn his ADRL season around this weekend (Aug. 3-4), in Dragstock IX at zMAX Dragway, near Charlotte.

Davis qualified his nitrous-boosted, 822-cubic-inch, Roush Yates-powered ’63 Corvette in the number-one position for the inaugural Mean 16 Outlaw Top Sportsman Shootout last month at Douglas Motorsports Park in south-central Georgia. He went on to reach the final round before the race was cut short by late-night dew settling on the racing surface.

Garret Race Cars Dominates ADRL Pro Extreme in Michigan

Written by Ian Tocher

MARBLE HILL, MO — Garret Race Cars entries dominated the ADRL Pro Extreme class July 13-14, in Martin, Michigan, led by the company flagship ’63 Corvette of two-time class champion Jason Scruggs, who won the ADRL Summer Drags VIII at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.

After 23 Pro Extreme teams made qualifying attempts on the U.S. 131 eighth mile, Garret-built cars took three of the top five positions and made up a full quarter of the 16-car, race-day field, led by the ’69 Camaro of 2006 class champion Bubba Stanton, who ran 3.663 seconds at 205.17 miles per hour to earn the top spot. ADRL officials also presented Stanton with the Turbos by Garrett Best Engineered Car award at the West Michigan event.

“I was thrilled to see Jason win again and for Bubba to regain the kind of performance and recognition he’s used to,” said Garret Livingston, founder and president of Garret Race Cars in Marble Hill, Missouri. “All of our cars did extremely well this weekend, which is a testament to the quality of people and teams we work with at the ADRL.”

Strong Showing for Garret Race Cars in St. Louis

Written by Ian Tocher

MARBLE HILL, MO — Garret Race Cars enjoyed another solid weekend June 1-2, during the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Gateway Drags IV at the recently reopened Gateway Motorsports Park, near St. Louis.

The Garret-built entries of former back-to-back ADRL world champion Jason Scruggs (2007-08) and 2006 champ Bubba Stanton qualified second and third in the ADRL’s premier Pro Extreme class, following only Scruggs’ teammate Mick Snyder, who also won the event.

“I want to congratulate our good friend and teammate Mick Snyder,” said Garret Livingston, founder and president of Garret Race Cars in Marble Hill, Missouri. “We didn’t build Mick’s car, but we did make some chassis repairs after he had an incident with it a couple of years ago.”

Garret Race Cars Get the Job Done at Bristol

Written by Ian Tocher

MARBLE HILL, MO — With the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) about to return to historic Maple Grove Raceway May 4-5, for the Northeast Drags II presented by Penske, Garret Race Cars is hoping to repeat a very successful weekend at the previous event two weeks earlier at Bristol Dragway.

“It was very exciting to see our customers perform so well at one of the country’s premier drag strips,” said Garret Livingston, founder and president of Garret Race Cars, after both Jason Scruggs and Aaron Glaser drove Garret-built cars to victory lane at the ADRL Spring Drags III.

Garret Race Cars entries nailed down the number-one and number-two qualifying positions in the premier Pro Extreme class as former back-to-back class champion Scruggs (2007-08) and 2006 champ Bubba Stanton went at it tooth-and-nail through three qualifying sessions. Scruggs came out on top by just two-thousandths of a second in his ’63 Corvette, covering the Bristol eighth mile in 3.649 seconds, which also stood up as low ET for the meet.

Bristol Brings Back Memories for Davis

Written by Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — Ronnie Davis is heading back to where it all started for him nearly 23 years ago as he prepares for the American Drag Racing League’s (ADRL’s) inaugural visit to Bristol Dragway this weekend. Davis will be competing Apr. 20-21, at the ADRL Spring Drags III in Top Sportsman, added late last year as an official class to the series’ all-eighth-mile show.

“Bristol is where I made my very first IHRA Top Sportsman start in October of 1989, where I redlighted in the final and lost to Ron Miller,” Davis recalled. “Bristol is also the site of the first ever—ever—NHRA Top Sportsman race in July of 2002, which I helped get started.

“I don’t know how many races I’ve won up there since then, but it’s been a lot so I’m looking forward to getting up there again and going for my first ADRL win.”

Last month at the ADRL season opener in Baytown, Texas, Davis qualified second in his Tommy Mauney-built ’63 Corvette and said he was encouraged by the performance of his nitrous oxide-injected, 822-cubic-inch engine from Roush Yates Performance Engine Group.

Davis Heads to Houston Ready to Race

Written by Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — Ronnie Davis has won five IHRA Top Sportsman championships and is a two-time NHRA Div. 2 champion, but this weekend he begins a quest to win the first-ever American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Top Sportsman national title. The all-eighth-mile series opens its 2012 tour Mar. 30-31, with the CarSafe Dragpalooza VIII at Royal Purple Raceway, near Houston, where Top Sportsman will begin its first full season of official ADRL status after debuting as an exhibition class last year.

“I’m excited about getting to this first ADRL race and going after the championship,” the Suwanee, Georgia-based golf cart dealer says. “I’m very happy that ADRL added Top Sportsman and becoming the first to win a championship in it with all three major sanctioning bodies would be a tremendous achievement.

“I’m very, very serious about this. At almost every race I go to I’m working as well as racing; I bring golf carts and satellite systems to sell and I service carts and satellite dishes at the track, but this time the only golf carts I’m bringing are my own. I’m going to the ADRL with one objective only and that is to race. It’s the first time I’ve done this in a long, long time, but I think it will help me mentally and to stay focused. I’m looking forward to that.”

Davis Begins 2012 Top Sportsman Campaign

Written by Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — He’s been drag racing for more than 40 years now, but Top Sportsman competitor Ronnie “The King” Davis is showing no signs of letting up as he opens an ambitious 2012 schedule this weekend with a trip to Orlando Speed World Dragway for the NHRA Division 2 season opener.

Just one week later, the Suwanee, Georgia-based golf cart dealer will attend another Division 2 race Feb. 17-19, also in Florida at Gainesville Raceway, and after a weekend off to regroup he’ll compete in a third NHRA Div. 2 event Mar. 2-4, at South Georgia Motorsports Park, which will feature the special-event Davis Golf Cart Sales Top Sportsman Shootout on Saturday night.

“I’ve never missed an NHRA Division 2 Top Sportsman race since we started holding them,” says Davis, whose business also serves as the divisional title sponsor for the class he helped develop and implement in 2002 with retired Div. 2 director, Bill Holt. “And there’s nothing I’d like better than to win another NHRA championship at the end of the year,” the two-time past Div. 2 champion adds.

Davis Destined for Dallas and ADRL World Finals

Written by Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — After winning the VP Racing Fuels Top Sportsman Shootout Oct. 1, during the 37th annual NHRA Doorslammer National Open at Ohio Valley Dragway in Kentucky, veteran drag racer Ronnie Davis wrapped up his 2011 NHRA campaign with a number-one qualifying effort last weekend.

Davis ran 6.502 seconds at 210.70 mph over the quarter mile at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA, to earn the top spot in a field of 24 Top Sportsman entries for the final NHRA Division 2 race of the year.

“Unfortunately, we broke something at the top end of that (qualifying) pass and were unable to fix the car at the track,” the defending Div. 2 class champion said as he now turns his attention to the ADRL season ender Oct. 21-23, at the Texas Motorplex.

“We’re focused now on preparing my other car, the black Tommy Mauney-built ’63 Corvette with its awesome Roush Yates power, and I’m looking forward to making some eighth-mile runs with it in Dallas.”
