Goodguys Funny Car Cracks 5-Second Zone in Boise!
Boise, ID – Coming off a successful March Meet debut, Marc Meadors and the Goodguys Racing Team loaded up their brand new Nitro burning “Good Times” 1970 Camaro Funny Car and headed to Boise, Idaho for last weekend’s 45th annual Ignitor at Firebird Raceway. The team’s goal? Have fun and log their first sub six-second run.
With a stubborn low pressure system parked over the entire Western U.S., qualifying was reduced to just two Saturday sessions after a complete Friday washout. With 10 teams vying for 8 spots, the pressure was on to “make the show.” Unfazed, Meadors drove the big Camaro right down the groove to qualify with a 6.119 @ 232.71 – good for the 7th spot in Sunday’s eliminations.
Meadors Blows Doors Off in Bakersfield…Pure Hell Turns to Pure Gold in Season Debut
It was during Meadors’ 5.831 / 254.09mph qualifier that things got hairy. As he approached the finish line, the passenger side door blew off, literally disintegrating and falling to the track in pieces. Team friend Bob Bunker Jr arranged to have the team’s old doors brought down, which were at his shop, so that they could continue racing.

Meadors Dominates Firebird Foxhunt
Boise, ID – For the first time in his racing career, Goodguys Rod & Custom Association President Marc Meadors hit the elusive drag racer’s trifecta during last weekend’s Little Caesar’s “Foxhunt” drags at Firebird Raceway.
On a sunny Saturday in the foothill country of Boise, Idaho, Meadors and the hard working Goodguys Racing team made 5 runs in the course of the day setting low ET, top speed of the race, then winning the final after dark. To sweeten the spoils, he set both ends of the track record for Pro Modified race cars. If that wasn’t enough, he defeated one of his early heroes, John Scialpi in the final round to notch his first event win of the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod season.
Records Fall as Meadors, Goodguys Racing Team Leave Mark on WCOPM Season Opener
Sonoma, CA – The Pro Mod drag racing record books took a beating this past weekend at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California as several class heavyweights did battle in an open 8 car show promoted by the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mods.
After qualifying was over Saturday evening, Southern Californian Dan Nickelson had run the quickest ET ever for a Pro Mod, clicking off a 5.706 @ 251.53 in his ‘02 Dodge Viper landing him atop of the qualifying sheet. In the first round of eliminations, Nickelson backed up the historic number with a 5.736 @ 248.43 establishing the earlier 5.706 as a new national record. It was also in qualifying that Marc Meadors driving the “Pure Hell2” ’69 Camaro Pro Mod Meadors became the first converter-driven blown pro mod to break the 250 MPH barrier clicking off a 252mph blast. But there was more to come. Much more.

Bakersfield, CA – Goodguys Rod & Custom Association President Marc Meadors used racing luck and high performance to capture the Nostalgia Pro Modified title at last weekend’s NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion at historic Famoso Raceway north of Bakersfield. Driving the “Pure Hell2” supercharged ’69 Camaro, Meadors qualified on the pole, set a track speed record and was quickest and fastest in every round of Sunday’s final eliminations where he twice caught lucky breaks helping him to win the event with relative ease.
In the first round of eliminations against John Overholser’s ’56 Chevy, Meadors left the line early drawing a “red light” start but Overholser lost control of his car and crossed the centerline instantly disqualifying him from the round. Unfazed by the foul start, Meadors charged down track to a 5.873 @ 248.75mph pass for the quickest Pro Mod run of the weekend. Meadors’ semi-final run of 5.901 with a speed of 249.03 in a victory over Joe Lepone Jr would hold up for top speed of the meet and establish a track record speed for Pro Mod.

Pleasanton, CA – From the minute Marc Meadors and the Goodguys Racing ’69 Camaro Pro Mod rolled off the trailer at last weekend’s PSCA Record Breaker Nationals at the Strip at The Strip @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway, it was quite clear who they had to beat; Mike Maggio and his “MagCo”1970 Camaro.
As the weekend event unfolded, Meadors and Maggio were nearly inseparable, qualifying #1 and #2 respectively in the Pro Street division. As eliminations progressed, the two inched towards each other on opposite sides of the elimination ladder, setting up a winner-take-all-final; a battle which Maggio ultimately won.
But not by much as Meadors’ valiant and quicker 5.963 lost out to the winner’s 5.971 – the win coming from a red-lighting Meadors. “It could have been an epic final, but I left too soon said a disappointed Meadors.”

This weekend, the team will venture south from their Pleasanton, California home base to the PSCA Ford Racing “Record Breaker Nationals” at the Strip @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway to lock horns with the competition in the Pro Street division. Although not their primary racing circuit, it was at last fall’s PSCA Street Car Supernationals @ the Strip Meadors qualified #2 in a national field of the country’s best racers running 5.92 @ 246mph. In fact, every run the Pure Hell2 ’69 Camaro made at the Supernationals in November was a sub-six second effort. Meadors asserts “he’s out to avenge the quarter final red light that took me out. I could have easily won that race” he grinned.
