Goforth Wins Eighth Championship with Sonny’s Power
LYNCHBURG, VA – This season Cary Goforth secured his eighth Mountain Motor Pro Stock Championship across four organizations. All eight championships came with the aid of Sonny’s Racing Engines, attesting the prowess of Sonny’s horsepower on both the eighth and quarter-miles.
“I’m proud of this because there have been a lot of people from day one when we started this journey that helped us get started, that helped us with advice, that helped us on the team, that were with us through the years,” Goforth said of the 2017 PDRA Extreme Pro Stock World Championship. “I think about those people. I think about our families at home, and all the people that have supported us, like Sonny and his team.
Goforth Racing expands to three cars on the heels of IHRA President’s Cup Nationals
Current IHRA points leader Cary Goforth and teammate Todd Hoerner will continue to field their current entries with the IHRA, while team patriarch Dean Goforth returns to the seat for the first time since undergoing surgery on his ankle in November. Dean and Cary Goforth will field a pair of brand new Jerry Haas-built Chevrolet Camaros, while Hoerner will continue in the Dean’s Casing Service 2011 Pontiac GXP. All three cars will feature EFI-equipped engines powered by Sonny’s Racing Engines.

Holdenville OK – Goforth Racing has had a couple busy weeks of racing, competing in both MMPSA at MIR, and going directly to the ADRL event in Virginia. The MMPSA event didn’t turn out the way we hoped, with Cary qualifying in the #5 Spot and Dean in the #7 position. “We really wanted to do well at this event to move up in the points, sometimes its just not our weekend” Goforth said.
Having already committed to running two races in the same area it made sense for us to travel straight from the MIR MMPSA event to Virginia Motorsports Park for the ADRL event. It makes for a long time away from home, but makes sense financially to stay in the area. The team wanted to have a good showing at ADRL and extend Cary’s points lead.
