CONCORD, NC – In just his second Pro Stock start of the 2017 season, Gas Monkey Energy Drink driver Alex Laughlin managed to reach the semifinal round of Sunday’s elimination action at the eighth annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals.
“The first couple of races getting started in a season, everybody is usually a little off and we have to remind ourselves these are just our first couple,” Laughlin said. “We have a little catching up to do but overall we’ve made some pretty respectable passes.
“We started out with a couple of solid passes in qualifying but it’s hard to get the car completely dialed in as quickly as we are trying. Still, we qualified 10th and that was good in this field. These are the best drivers in the world.”
CONCORD, NC – With no time to test as the NHRA schedule plows through it’s first stretch of three races on consecutive weekends, Alex Laughlin knows anything they need to try to make their Gas Monkey Energy Drink Chevrolet Camaro quicker needs to be tested during qualifying at national events. That’s why he was so happy to qualify 10th overall at the eighth annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, despite the fact they were in partial test mode the last two days.
“We are making really good progress with the car,” Laughlin said. “We are still a little bit down on speed but it’s because we just haven’t gotten the perfect combination yet. Whenever we do, we will be running the same numbers (No. 1 qualifier and Elite Motorsports teammate) Jeg (Coughlin) is running the last two weekends.”
CONCORD, NC – After spotting the rest of the Pro Stock class a four-race head start, third-year driver Alex Laughlin says his Elite Motorsports teammates are helping him and his crew get their Gas Monkey Energy Drink Chevrolet Camaro up to speed as quickly as possible.
With the eighth annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals set to kick-off Friday, Laughlin expects to put himself in the competitive mix at zMax Dragway, even though he only has one national event under his belt this year.
“Having a great team around you makes all the difference,” Laughlin said. “I look across the pit and see a guy like Jeg Coughlin Jr., who has five Pro Stock championships, and Erica Enders, who has two championships herself, and Vincent Nobile, who is an awesome driver who will definitely be a champion one day, and it’s just so cool to know they have my back.
HOUSTON – It may be his first Pro Stock race of the year, but Alex Laughlin isn’t showing any signs of rust, qualifying his Gas Monkey Energy Drink Chevrolet Camaro in the No. 10 position at this weekend’s 30th annual NHRA Spring Nationals.
Laughlin posted a steady 6.611 at 208.68 mph with his Elite Performance-powered hot rod, setting up a first-round elimination date with No. 7 qualifier Tanner Gray, who had a best pass of 6.575 at 209.23 mph during qualifying.
“The power we’re getting from Elite Performance is really good,” Laughlin said. “Those guys have been great in working with us to match that horsepower to our car. We made a lot of progress this weekend but there is definitely plenty of room to improve. I’m really excited about the possibilities.
HOUSTON – Native Texan Alex Laughlin is using the first race of the year in his home state make a triumphant return to the Pro Stock ranks in his Gas Monkey Energy Drink Chevrolet Camaro. Laughlin also will be racing the Gas Monkey Energy Drink Top Alcohol Dragster this weekend at the 30th annual NHRA Spring Nationals, giving him two big chances to score in front of all of his friends and family.
“I had the chance to run both cars last fall in Dallas and Las Vegas and it’s a bunch of work but also a lot of fun,” Laughlin said. “I mean, you don’t even wear the same kind of firesuit so it seems like half the time I’m finding a place to get changed, but the days fly by so fast.
“I definitely think the extra seat time and all the additional hits you get at the (Christmas) tree in real race conditions helps. The cars are very different but getting a good reaction time is the same no matter what you’re driving.”
GAINESVILLE, FL – Alex Laughlin will be racing the Gas Monkey Energy Drink Top Alcohol Dragster at this weekend’s 48th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, but the Bluff Dale, Texas, native says he’d be just as happy in a go-kart at Daytona, a Legends car at Volusia, or even a piece of farm equipment at the annual Tractor Pull in Ocala.
“What can I say? I’m a racing junkie,” Laughlin said. “I love it all. Heck, if someone has a boat I’ll race that thing too. I just love to compete. I love to go fast. I love the thrill of it all.
Laughlin had a breakout season in the NHRA Pro Stock category last year, winning his first national event in St. Louis and taking top qualifier honors in Denver. In his first full year in the class, he narrowly missed making the playoffs, finishing 11th overall in the Gas Monkey Energy Drink Chevrolet Camaro.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN —The racing at this year’s prestigious National Hot Rod Association’s U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana featured racecars with over ten-thousand horsepower that blasted down the track at over three -hundred mile per hour. But the most noise came from the Gas Monkey Garage merchandise booth. Gas Monkey Garage is best known for its Discovery channel TV show, Fast ‘N Loud. The fast and beautiful models of Ozark Models Group (OMG!) provided the added showpower to give the fans something special.
“The NHRA puts on amazing events and I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with Gas Monkey Garage,” said OMG! Models’ Steve Libby. “The iconic Gas Monkey Garage brand is the perfect fit for Drag Racing, and our OMG! Models were able to add to the excitement. The booth was jam packed all race weekend and the models had a great time interacting with the fans. I would like to thank Gas Monkey Garage Director of Merchandising Alli Prigmore, and of course the creator of the Gas Monkey brand, Richard Rawlings. “
