All Star Nostalgia Funny Car 2017 SEASON SUMMARY AND WRAP UP

ST LOUIS – Hello race fans!!!  Since we’ve wrapped up our 2017 season, I thought you might appreciate a summary of the events and accomplishments.  Recall that in April of this year, the IHRA announced they had chosen to “defer” the 2017 National Pro Championship Series resulting a lesser number of race events that defined our season.  With this challenge, we set out to maximize the opportunities at each event we participated in.

Looking back at this year, we can proudly say we met our objectives as it was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable seasons yet.  The car was very consistent, team records were set, and we visited Winner’s Circle at 3 of the 4 events attended.

Our first event of the season was the 15th Annual NHRA Holley Hot Rod Reunion held in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  Amid some of the most challenging weather conditions we’ve raced in, in terms of temperature and humidity, we qualified in the last position and worked hard to advance against the better performing cars.  The other competitors struggled as we did and we were able to advance through eliminations and make it to the final round.

THE 6TH GOODGUYS NOSTALGIA NATIONALS RACE REPORT

ST LOUIS – Hello race fans! Hoping all things are well with you and the fall season is treating you fairly.   The racing gods again shined upon the Allstar Dodge Challenger while attending the 6th Annual Goodguy’s Nostalgia Nationals at Bowling Green Kentucky’s Beech Bend Raceway Park. This was the 4th and final race of our season.

The car’s remarkably consistent performance resulted in lowest event ETs for the weekend and another victory for the team.   After sizing up the competition and with the tune up knowledge gained in Michigan a few weeks earlier, Jake set the weekend’s objective to run fast and consistent but without carnage.  Again this weekend, the format offered a modified “Chicago Style” road to the finals where the cars with the two lowest ET’s from each qualification round go head to head in the final round on Saturday night to determine the event winner.

ST LOUIS – Hello race fans! Hoping all things are well with you.  The theme of this race report is “Challenges and Reward” with the reward being a first-place trophy.  Yes, a win for the team in the first event of our season!  After several weeks of “maybe” and “maybe not” discussions in May and early June with the NHRA on attending the 15th annual Holley National Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA Insurance at the Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the announcement was final made; the Nostalgia Funny Car Class was going to race and we were invited to attend.

The event featured a wide variety of activities, including NHRA vintage drag racing, featuring some the sport’s most famous and historic cars and drivers racing in such classes at Nostalgia Top Fuel, Funny Car, Fuel Altereds, Supercharged Gassers, Classic Super Stock, Hot Rods and others.

Cedar Falls Race Report and IHRA Northern Nationals Preview

CEDAR FALLS, IA – Just two weeks ago, Jake and the AllStar Dodge Challenger were in central Iowa participating in Allstar Dodge Challenger NFCthe annual Cedar Falls Night of Fire event. As the feature class, the nitro funny cars were chartered to show the fans just what nitro racing is all about…and so they did. With three other reputable teams attending, there was plenty of a challenge to perform although only braggin’ rights were on the line.

That said, the AllStar Challenger team also had an agenda….put on a good show for the fans but test and collect data in preparation for the upcoming IHRA Northern Nationals race where qualifying and advancing rounds makes all the difference.

AllStar Challenger NFC Attending Cedar Falls Night of Fire

ST LOUIS – Hello Race Fans!!! Greg “Jake” Jacobsmeyer and the AllStar Dodge Challenger will be at Cedar Falls Allstar Dodge Challenger NFCMotorsports Park, Cedar Falls, IA., 19 July, attending the Arnold Motor Supply Night of Fire. Following the impressive performance at the IHRA’s Summer Nationals in Cordova, Ill, Jake believes the car will again return to the track in strong fashion.

Since that event and the unexpected clutch failure, the car’s motor and drivetrain has been completely disassembled, critical parts inspected, replaced and reassembled with the objective to exceed previous performance. The team is again ready for a good race.

Patience Is A Good Virtue

CORDOVA, IL – It took an extra day to complete the event as rain interfered with qualifying on Friday and refused to Allstar Dodge Challenger NFClet up for any racing on Saturday but Jake and the Allstar Dodge Challenger NFC team persevered. Friday, the track appeared to be in great shape for racing. It was a brand new asphalt surface with this event being the first test of its quality adding a new “unknown” to the tune up and chassis set up.

Needless to say the first round on Friday caused the Nitro teams to keep a close watch on how the Pro-Mod and Pro-Stock classes hooked up on the new surface. With St Louis getting rained out, the fact was that we hadn’t made a clean pass since late summer last year if you recall our challenges at the end of last season. Well racers don’t just watch other racers, they get strapped in and punch the pedal for all its worth.

AllStar Rug Doctor Dodge Challenger Advances to Semi-Finals in San Antonio

There are few events for a race team filled with more excitement and anticipation than the first race of the year.  The AllStar Rug San Antonio Start Plenty of FuelDoctor Challenger NFC team is not exempt.  After an off-season which involved a total disassembly and reassembly of the car, it was finally time to show fans and competitors the abilities of this team.  With a limited budget and a long winter precluding any testing, the car and team hit the track the first time with no option but to produce ETs and speeds that would place the car in the top eight spots in Saturday’s eliminations.

The potential for a DNQ (did not qualify) was real as 11 solidly performing teams were vying for those top eight spots.  Optimism was high as the starting point for the car’s setup and tune up was based on were we left off last season which proved to be on the right track.

AllStar Rug Doctor Dodge Challenger NFC Off-Season Report #2

In my last report, I discussed what we’ve been up to in preparation for next season.  Over the next several months as we reassemble FC Backthe AllStar Rug Doctor Dodge piece by piece it provides me the opportunity to share with you the progress as well as insight to the more critical components that are key to the car’s safety and performance.  In this report, I’ll discuss a very important component that is normally hidden and often overlooked; the rear differential and housing.

The differential and housing function much like a typical automobile differential or rear axle but have extra large internal and external components to handle the extreme loads from a nitro burning engine.  Our external housing is cast out of aluminum to save weight.  This type of differential is called a “top loader”.  Normal differentials have an opening in the front or the back to facilitate ease in assembly and maintenance; however those opening locations are in the worst places when the housing’s strength is critical.

AllStar Rug Doctor Dodge Challenger NFC Off-Season Report

Greetings.  I hope your holidays were enjoyable, restful, and allowed rewarding time spent with family and friends.  Ours sure were.

I thought I’d provide some insight to what we’ve been up to in our off-season.  In the off-season, much of my spare time is spent reviewing our performance from last year and preparing for our next season of racing.  All aspects are in consideration as our objectives have remained the same: an affordable, reliable and competitive program.

With the car as the centerpiece, the entire operation is under review of condition and for improvements, to include tuning, procedures, tools/pit configuration (storage, access), spare/replacement parts inventory, consumables, and transportation trailer. For us, the offseason started shortly after our return from the October World Finals in Memphis, Tennessee.

AllStar Rug Doctor Dodge Challenger Nitro Funny Car

Millington, TN – The AllStar Rug Doctor Dodge Challenger Nitro Funny Car team traveled to Memphis Tennessee’s Memphis International Raceway to attend the IHRA’s Summit Racing Equipment World and Nitro Jam Season Finals on 11 – 12 October.   The last race of the season is always met with anticipation as it’s our opportunity to wrap up the season on a high note using all our season’s lessons learned and tune up information and our last chance to hoist the coveted Iron Man trophy which has been elusive this year.

Although our performance has continued to improve in both ETs and speed throughout the season, we’ve been unable to solve the challenge of piston/cylinder damage as a consequence of the pursuit of more horsepower.  Looking toward next season’s new IHRA competitive format and with few opportunities remaining to get this figured out, this weekend I decided to set aside my normal “minor tweak” approach and take a more aggressive swing at it.
