Campbells Show Car in Memory of Son at Blue Suede Cruise

While Don Campbell of Vermillon, Ohio, had begun the rebuild of a 1934 Chevy Master sedan with his son, Christopher Campbell, several years ago, Christopher died suddenly before they could finish it on June 25, 2007.

Understandably, the car was relegated to the back of the barn before finally being driven in as-in condition while Don and his wife, Viki, grieved, but one day in 2013, Viki urged her husband to finish it, as she was sure it’s what their son would have wanted.

With help from family friend Jeff VanWave, Don completely customized the car, painted it, built a small-block Chevy for it and made plans to show it in memory of their son at the Blue Suede Cruise sponsored by AkzoNobel this weekend, July 14-16 at Summit Motorsports Park.

Now set up among other classic cruisers at America’s Racetrack, Don and Viki have been talking with fans about their car and the inspiration behind its customization, and while their son is on their minds, an angel they say represents him is on their rear-view mirror.

The event runs through July 16. For more information, call 419-668-5555 or visit www.summitmotorsportspark.com.
