BROWN’S RECORD RUN LEADS TOYOTA IN TOPEKA NHRA QUALIFYING

TOPEKA, KS – Antron Brown set a national Top Fuel speed record at more than 333 mph to qualify third and lead Toyota in preparation for Sunday’s Menards NHRA Heartland Nationals presented by Minties at Heartland Park Topeka.

Brown’s 333.16 mph pass came on a 3.667-second run, which temporarily put him at the top of the field in the third qualifying session. He then followed with a second 3.67-second pass in the final round. Brown has now qualified in the top three in seven of eight races this season.

“This track is really tight,” said the three-time world champion. “We were almost at 300 mph at half-track today. Our Matco Tools/U.S. Army/Toyota boys are working hard. We love these conditions you can just come out here and throw down. We’ve just got to keep doing what we’ve been doing. Lord knows we’ve been putting in the work so, hopefully, this can be our race tomorrow.”

Two Kalitta Motorsports dragsters joined Brown in the top half of the field as Shawn Langdon placed sixth and Doug Kalitta was seventh. Troy Coughlin rounded out the Toyota Top Fuel contingent in 11th. Langdon, who has bettered his qualifying position in each of his four races this season, will square off with Coughlin in round one.

In Funny Car, two Toyota Camry drivers registered 3.8-second passes. J.R. Todd registered a 3.875-second lap in the final qualifying session Saturday to place ninth, while Cruz Pedregon ran a career-best 3.886 in today’s opening run to earn the tenth spot. Del Worsham qualified 12th and Chad Head was 13th.

Sunday’s NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series eliminations can be seen live on FS1 beginning at 2:00 p.m. and also will be re-aired on 10:30 p.m. (all times EDT) .
