BROWN, DEJORIA LEAD TOYOTA IN NHRA FINALS QUALIFYING

POMONA, CA – Antron Brown qualified fourth in Top Fuel, while Alexis DeJoria was fifth in Funny Car to lead Toyota in preparation for Sunday’s Auto Club NHRA Finals at the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California.

Brown placed in the top three in two of the weekend’s four qualifying sessions highlighted by a 3.696-second pass at 326.00 mph in his Matco Tools Toyota dragster.  He will be looking for his fifth win of the season on Sunday.

Joining Brown in the top half of the Top Fuel field is Doug Kalitta in seventh.  Kalitta is still alive in the title chase, but will need some assistance to walk away with his first world championship. He will open eliminations with a first-round match-up against Wayne Newby.

Richie Crampton qualified ninth, while Shawn Langdon will start his final Top Fuel race in 11th before making the move to Funny Car next season.

DeJoria, who is retiring following Sunday’s race, registered a 3.894-second pass at 331.98 miles per hour in her Tequila Patrón Toyota Camry to earn the fifth spot.  She also earned bonus points in two of the four sessions.  DeJoria closes out her Funny Car career having qualified in the top six in four of the six Countdown to the Championship races.

J.R. Todd placed ninth, while Del Worsham qualified 11th.  Cruz Pedregon was bumped from the field in the final session of the weekend.

A re-air of today’s final qualifying can be seen on FS1 Sunday at 11:00 a.m., with the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series eliminations on FS1 live beginning at 4:00 p.m. (EDT).
