Boland, Orr, and Glinny win season finals at TMP’s Cayuga Dragway

CAYUGA, ON – The sixth and final race was completed yesterday in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park today, and winners were declared in each series.

The champions in each of the drag racing series were also determined after this event.

Winning his second PMRA race of the year was Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek, Ontario.

The 1941 Willys driver qualified number two in the field and met up with number one qualifier Eric Latino of Whitby, Ontario, in the final. Latino fouled at the line, and Boland went on to record a 5.943, 240.08 winning run.

The top spot in the PMRA 2011 Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts, Patio Passport and Global Emissions Systems, Inc. was not determined until the final run between Boland and Latino. Vito Montesano of Maple, Ontario, was leading the points race going into this last race, but Latino had a chance of taking the top spot. With Latino losing to Boland, Montesano won the title by a mere point over Boland, with Latino close in third spot. Montesano finished with 1534 points, Boland took second with 1533 points, and Latino placed third with 1526 points.

Semi-finalists in the PMRA race were Rob Atchison of London, Ontario, and Montesano.

Tom Orr of Shawville, Quebec drove his Top Sportsman 2008 Dodge Stratus entry to his first win in Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition. After eliminating Bob Bauer Jr of Elma, New York in the Top Sportsman final, Orr met up with Top Dragster driver Jamie Bridge of Napanee Ontario in the event final. After Orr and Bridge staged and lined up for the race, Bridge broke, giving Orr the win.

Orr qualified number four in the 16-car Top Sportsman field, and Bridge qualified number nine on the Top Dragster side. Bridge beat finalist Paulo Giust of Osgoode, Ontario to go on to the race’s final round between the two divisions.

Top Sportsman racer Phil Sampson of Granton, Ontario had clinched the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts 2011 Championship Point Award Series title before this final race, finishing the 2011 season on top with 1239 points.

Bridge took second in the series with 1201 points, and Top Dragster driver Jeff Moser of Waterloo, Ontario placed third with 1172 points.

After qualifying fourth in the PBSS field, Ted Glinny rode his Kawasaki Ninja to his first series win. Glinny, of Milton, Ontario, ran an 8.723, 141.46 to eliminate Pete Stewart of Toronto, Ontario in the PBSS final. Semi-finalists in the event included Bill Anderson of Seaforth, Ontario, and Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario.

The number one spot in the 2011 PBSS Championship Point Award Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products was not changed after the final race, as Randy Hope of London, Ontario had already locked up the title. The Pro Bike Kawasaki rider finished the inaugural season of the PBSS in first place with 1211 points, followed by Pro Bike racer Cryderman with 1137 points, and Pro Sled rider Bill Anderson of Seaforth, Ontario with 1085 points.

The Annual “Night of Champions” Championship Point Award Series Banquet for the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS) will be held at the Burlington Hotel & Conference Centre in Burlington, Ontario on Saturday, November 19, 2011.
