BATES, ENRIQUEZ LEAD WINNERS IN SACRAMENTO
SACRAMENTO, CA – In the final results from Sacramento Raceway and the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series Night 
of Fire, Kin Bates , Anderson, Calif., and Don Enriquez , Mission Viejo, Calif., took home the wins in A/Fuel and Jr. Fuel respectively.
Bates face off with third generation driver and No. 1 qualifier Drew Austin of Tacoma, Wash., in the final where he was out first and ran quicker at 6.056 seconds, 229.35 mph to Austin’s 6.106, 228.77. Enriquez meet up with Alan Hull in the Jr. Fuel final with Enriquez taking home the hardware in 7.144 at 184.47.
Bobby Cottrell and Brendon Frye each added to their win totals as Cottrell, Whittier, Calif., knocked out Richard High in 7.0 Pro and Frey, Bakersfield, Calif., put Roy Castagnetto on the trailer in A/Gas.
In the remaining Gas classes it was Rich Harrison, Brian Smith, Dana Griffin and Ken Parks all celebrating in the winner’s circle. Harrison, Lakewood, Calif., beat out Cliff Boyles in B/Gas; Ojai, Calif., runner Smith used a holeshot to beat Chris Rea in C/Gas; Griffin was better at both ends of the track against Hugh Mueller in D/Gas; and Parks, Placerville, Calif., won at the light when Larry Heseman left early with a red light foul start in E/Gas.
Hometown racer Mike Troxel, Sacramento, ran a 7.544, 169.23 in the CIFCA Funny Car to hold off James Maher, LA Habra, Calif., who was right on his heels at 7.653, 179.11
The Nostalgia Eliminator contingent was led by Dustin Lee, Palmdale, Calif., who beat Sabrina Capps in NE 1. Capps ran dead on the index at 7.600 but Lee got the early lead and held on at the strip. NE 2 racer Dave Lawson, Mariposa, Calif., won over Terry Lindbald as the pair left the line together with Lawson turning on the win light. Former Heritage Series Champion Lindsey Lister, San Pedro, Calif., added a win to her resume with a stellar .008 second reaction time and an even better 9.602 on the 9.60 index to knock off Mike Gillespie.
Hot Rod Eliminator went to John Hildebrand and his ’31 Ford against AJ Thomas and his ’64 Vallant while Mia Nasca took the trophy away from Rob Goode in the Nor Cal Drag Bikes and Jason Richey outran Wes Morris in the Nitro Combo.
Next up on the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series is the NHRA Lucas Oil National Open at Mission Raceway Park for the Nostalgia Funny Cars July 22-23, and then the Nightfire Nationals at Firebird Raceway that will feature both the Nostalgia Top Fuel and Funny Car classes August 10-13.
