AUXIER & CASTELLANA IN THE HUNT FOR GSA PRO MOD CROWN

DSA_6464smDINWIDDIE, Virginia – Having controlled the number-one spot in the Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Challenge points standings for the better part of 2009, Burton Auxier comes into these final two races of the season with humble confidence. Well knowing the challenge that lies before the Al-Anabi Racing Pro Modified team, Auxier and Mike Castellana will spearhead the team’s efforts to seal the deal on the GSA NHRA Pro Mod Challenge crown this weekend in Richmond, Virginia.

Auxier, who posted the quickest run for a nitrous Pro Mod in history with a 5.934 at 238.60 mph blast in the quarterfinal round at zMax Dragway last month, has shown the field that he has the performance necessary to get the job done on a consistent basis since he scored his first career NHRA Pro Mod win in Bristol earlier this year.

“We’re proud to be up at the front, leading the points,” said Auxier, en route to the Virginia Motorsports Park complex. “Like I’ve said before, it’s a lot of pressure, though, and we’ve got our work cut out for us if we want to stay there. There are a lot of great cars and drivers still in the hunt here and we’ve got to keep focused on consistency if we want to win this thing.

“More than anything, I’m just glad to have this opportunity, and I think this Speedtech Nitrous/Reher-Morrison engine program is going to be just what we need to stay ahead of the pack.”

Perhaps best known for the string of record-setting performances that have taken place on its historic quarter-mile, Virginia Motorsports Park will most likely see another barrage of incredible performances out of the Pro Modified contingent this weekend, and considering the past displays of the Al-Anabi Racing team – it could be home to another first-ever for nitrous Pro Mod racing.

With the end of the season looming largely on the horizon, Al-Anabi Racing is in the midst of a championship battle in two organizations, both quarter- and eighth-mile, showing their ability to walk-the-walk in every set of circumstances. This weekend, though, the primary focus will of course be getting the win at the NHRA Virginia Nationals and increasing both Auxier and Castellana’s points lead, taking it one round at a time in hopes of an all-nitrous, all-Al-Anabi final round.

Qualifying rounds are scheduled for 1:00 and 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 9th, with a final session on Saturday afternoon and the opening round of eliminations. The remainder of eliminations will be completed on Sunday afternoon.

ABOUT AL-ANABI RACING/QATAR

A result of drag racing’s continually increasing popularity abroad, Al-Anabi Racing is based out of the country of Qatar. Qatar is widely known for working with the United States military forces to build one of the premier U.S. air bases in the Arabian Gulf Region at Al-Udeid. The Qatari philosophy was to obtain the best defense by providing the best facilities for U.S. and coalition forces. At the heart of the Al-Anabi Racing program is His Highness Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Thani, a member of the ruling family of Qatar, who set a goal of promoting the domestic and international awareness of motorsports in the nation of Qatar through multiple racing teams competing within the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.
