A Unique SCSN For Unique Times Kicks Off Thursday in Vegas

LAS VEGAS—In a year of uncertainty, Mel Roth made it a mission to ensure his annual marathon of drag racing returned to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Thanks to that mission and the fans, racers, and businesses that have stood by Roth and the Premier Street Car Association in 2020, the COMP Cams Street Car Super Nationals 16 Presented by FuelTech kicks off Thursday as originally scheduled.

The COVID-19 pandemic that has changed America’s way of life since March will still have an effect on the event. Spectator tickets will not be sold at the track as has been customary in years past. This year, tickets are only available for purchase online. Tickets can be purchased by clicking HERE. Racer and crew passes can be purchased at the credential booth located to the left of the drag strip entrance as has been customary in the past.

In an open letter to fans, racers, and media earlier this week, Roth explained that while this year’s race may have a different feel, everything is being done to still provide an incredible experience.

“This has definitely been a year, for better or worse, we’ll never forget,” said Roth, SCSN promoter and president of the PSCA. “Putting this race together in the best of times has always been thanks to a lot of hard-working people putting in a lot of hours. This year, it took even more people a lot longer to ensure we were able to run our 16th Street Car Super Nationals.”

With a limit on spectators and safety concerns paramount, Roth was beginning to think SCSN would be another casualty of the pandemic. But after working with the officials at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and seeing a massive effort from fans and racers, he knew the show would go on.

“I cannot thank these folks enough,” Roth said. “When word went out that we were facing some challenges, the phone calls, texts, and emails just poured in. Drag racing is a family. As much as my wife, Heather, and our kids, drag racing is a family. I found out how wonderful family could be thanks to the outpouring of support we’ve received in the last few weeks. Thanksgiving is soon and I know I have a lot to be thankful for.”

For those unable to attend the race live this year, FloRacing is provided live stream coverage starting Thursday. To watch the race, click HERE.
