Ahten Continues to Refine New Car at Vegas Regional

Las Vegas, NV – Last weekend’s NHRA National event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway proved the new Johnny Ahten Vegas 1, 2015 courtesy of Combust FiltersStump Puller can get off the line, go straight and stop in a timely manner. Now that those main hurdles have been overcome, it’s time to go racing.

I have a list of things to refine,” said Johnny Ahten. “I am very impressed with the new car. The seating position is a little different so it’s going to take a few runs to get used to it. We used last weekend’s race as basically a test session. We will continue to sort it out and move forward. The good news is we didn’t hurt any parts and I feel confident if we calm the car down a bit we will be able to stick the tires and make some quality passes,” added Ahten.

Right out of the box the Island Renovations/Combust Filters dragster launched and blasted down the track on its maiden voyage. It was a planned early shut-off to make sure the parachutes and brakes worked. The 5.758/189.34 was a strong pass and most likely would have been around a 5.33 or better. Friday’s second run had to be aborted when a fifty cent part failed when an o-ring pushed out during the starting procedure. Saturday’s final qualifying attempt produced a strong launch but then a loss of traction resulted in a cloud of tire smoke. Johnny ended up in the number twelve position.

Saturday’s first round of eliminations verses Megan McKernan was off to a great start with Johnny having the quicker sixty foot time. Just as things were looking good, the rear tires began to spin and the resulting tire smoke signaled the end of the racing for the weekend as McKernan sped down the track to a 5.408/270.37.

Overall it was a successful debut,” said Ahten. “My guys put a ton of work in on getting the new car ready. The new wrap by One11 Ink really was a crowd pleaser. Fans and racers stopped by to look and comment on the new Stump Puller. We now know the car is safe, so now it’s time to make it quick and fast,” added Ahten.
