Rain, cold wipe out first day of Four-Wide Nationals near Charlotte
CONCORD, NC – Racing was canceled Friday afternoon for the opening day of the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway near Charlotte after rain persisted throughout the day and the temperature fell to the low 50s in the afternoon.
The only vehicles on the track belonged to the NHRA Safety Safari that worked diligently to get the four lanes ready but to no avail, not even with the help of nine jet-engine track driers.
The loss of racing on Friday leaves only two qualifying session for Saturday (2, 5 p.m., EDT) with the top-16 in each pro category advancing to Sunday’s championship eliminations scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
The day had a bright spot for Don Schumacher Racing that announced a multiyear marketing partnership that makes Pennzoil “The Official Oil Technology of DSR.”
